A Personal and Deepening EP from 424KP
A fresh new EP from 424KP manages to deliver some amazingly spacious undertones and engulfing soundscapes in the form of hip-hop and R&B, culminating in something almost cinematic, honest, and brimming with personality, from start to finish.
The EP is titled 4 Different Worlds and certainly doesn't hold back in creating something that can get you lost in, while still keeping things catchy with plenty of hooks and a robust character attached to every track.
The record starts off with its title track, and this one has a bit of a slow burn. It grows as it plays on but starts smooth and spacious.
You have a piano and synth pad that add depth to the song already, along with vocals that come in and start giving detailed lyrics with descriptive attributes that really help paint a picture as the song unfolds.
Although the song boasts loads of swagger, you can hear a lot of the personal tonalities coming through. This is a song that actually meant something to the artist and certainly came from some real place.
Those smooth overtones don't really go anywhere. The whole thing has an atmosphere that you step into, and the rest of the EP holds true to that same sensation, but it branches off in different directions slightly.
Distract is a great job of introducing the record and some of its better staples.
The vocals have a great sort of robustness to them. There are some deep-toned, smooth flows in the performance.
There's a little auto-tune added to those vocals, but that's just for effect. He's hitting those notes, and he's doing it with again, that sort of swagger that gives the entire song that personality.
The hooks are pretty heavy-handed, and a lot of the chorus elements of this track end up sort of bouncing around in your brain way after it has ended.
This is followed by "2rearranged" which has a different style to it a bit. It's got a faster flow and different lyrical phrasing, just as descriptive and still pretty personal, but things move a little bit faster on this one.
One of the things I loved about this track in particular is the fact that it intertwines some vast guitar work in the mix. The guitars really help give you this deepening sort of sullen mood. The whole thing has a slightly dark overtone to it, but that's also because of how honest it is.
As you're listening to the lyrics, the songs really set those moods for the songs.
The way the artist puts things lyrically is incredibly relatable. He's able to articulate those thoughts and feelings into words and still not go over the top but be descriptive so that you can understand what's happening.
What's better is that you relate to those emotions. The songs are incredibly connected to the point where you actually relate them to your own life as you listen.
I really found it enticing that this was someone who was able to intertwine a lot of that emotional pull with the songs and still have them come through with such a cinematically heavy hand, along with keeping hold of that persona and artist presents the entire time.
The EP closes out with the track called "4mumzy", which is an ode to his mom, and the lyrics are brilliant here. He goes through all the things that his mom did for him and taught him so that he could become the person he is today.
This is a song that pays homage to his mother in such a unique and brilliant way, and again, it is something for plenty of us that can still be very relatable.
This track particularly hit pretty hard for me, and I connected with it right from the start. He really paints that picture amazingly and is very unafraid and slightly vulnerable when laying tracks out.
His writing on these songs is free and open. He's not afraid to create songs with no walls built around them, and that's super important.
This is definitely an artist to keep an eye out for, and I'm already hooked, so if you listen to the EP, I'm sure you might be as well.
Definitely have a listen to this record as soon as you can and then, check out a lot of the rest of the artist releases on Spotify as there are loads to soak in, a lot of them being full albums along with singles and other EPs, each delivering more unique personality and slightly different approaches to showcase all the different influences the artist actually encompasses.
