A Pop-Punk Anthem for The Mistfits from AITA
AITA returns with a feisty new single that serves as a bit of a pop-punk party anthem, blending in alternative rock and heavier, edgier approaches with the classic punk undertone. This track is thriving with unreal energy from start to finish, along with catchy, melodically driving, and completely vivacious performances through and through.
Not only is this a bit of a sing-along, fist-in-the-air banger, but it beckons a youthful and almost rebellious sense of being. This is a song that feels good to listen to and, if you're old like me, makes you think of some of the good old days.
The single is about getting out there, having fun, and being a bit carefree. These are the kinds of things you should be doing in your younger years, and this track captures that aesthetic and energy so incredibly well that it is totally infectious.
Suddenly, you start feeling a little bit more wild, and I love one song that does that to me. I really dig a track that can make you feel something.
It also speaks to the part of us that doesn't really care what other people think. It's a song that lets you know that it's okay to push certain aspects of society to the side, and just be free.
Lines like "Look mom, we made it, half drunk and naked" speak volumes to me.
It just showcases that freeing sense of rambunctiousness really well.
The vocals have a great sort of bubbliness to them, all while still keeping that attitude intact. That rebellious swagger is always there, but the melodies are colorful and bright.
Nice and edgy, and again, some of the guitar work leans into that alternative rock element of heaviness but doesn't stray far from the pop-punk formula that the band boasts so well.
The whole thing is kind of an anthem for the misfits. Well, when I hear it, I think of my younger days when I was a misfit, and the song makes me feel nostalgic because of it.
It can also be looked at as a song that's kind of an anthem for the misfit in all of us. That part of us that wants to get back out there right now and go on a 2-day bender without a care in the world about anyone or anything or how they view us.
One of my favorite parts about this track is the simple fact that it breaks into this bridge section for that final closed-fisted chorus, and that bridge section is in Spanish.
For those of you that don't speak the language, this section is basically dedicated to the song to people that don't want to sit firmly inside the box. For the people that don't just go along with the crowd. For those that want to stand out, feel alive, and can be themselves.
As I said before, this is an anthem.
This track is a fiery one, but it's spirited. It's not angry whatsoever. It's just free. It is done with no walls built around it, and a message to send to others.
Be yourself, get out there, do what you want, live your life, be free.
Sometimes it takes a kick-ass pop-punk single to let us remember that we're put here for a reason. We don't have to follow every piece of direction we're given. We don't have to walk with the crowd; we don't have to swim with the current.
We are free as people. It's okay to get wild; you'll remember those nights more than you will most others.
One day you might look back on those days, and although you may not want to relive them, you'll remember them as some of the best times you've ever had.
This happens for a reason. When you are free, you feel free. Throwing certain elements of caution to the wind feels good, and everyone deserves to do it.
It doesn't matter if you're young or old. Doesn't matter who you are or where you're from. We all deserve it. And this single reminds us of exactly that. To be free, even if it's just for a night.
Now, some people might look at this track as a punk song about getting drunk and crazy, but it's a lot more than that. There are layers to it, and there's that important message behind. I picked up on it, and when you listen to the song, I'm sure you will too.

Hey and welcome back!! Let's talk about Captain Jerry's Night Out! This was a wild pop-punk banger!
What was this track about and where did it come from?
We wanted a feel good, high energy party song in the AITA catalog. When we first heard the riff we knew we wanted to do some genre fusion on this one. Just really have fun with it, let loose.
When you guys record, is any of it live? The energy is always outstanding!
We don’t record live, although each finished song is the product of many hours working out a demo. This often includes some jammy jam time.
Do you write songs together, or is there one main songwriter that brings the ideas to the band?
Almost all of our songs are collaborative works between the whole band. We really like that AITA is something none of us could do alone, and is a blend of each member. Kind of like if we had a four-way baby.
Are you working on anything new? Is this track going to be part of a full album?
Always. We are on a very aggressive release schedule this year, and are always a song or two ahead with ideas. We plan to roll everything we made this year into an album, hopefully with some album exclusive bonus tracks.
Are you guys playing shows right now?
Fuck yeah. All the time. Plenty of Bmore and DC, hit NC and FL on a mini tour this year as well.
Do you record at big studios, or is it a home DAW normally?
Our strikingly handsome guitarist Eli does most of the song production. We record in his bedroom or our practice space. We love how much control we have over the product doing production in house. It allows us all to be a part of the song creation in a way that we couldn’t in the studio. A lot more room for last minute changes, tweaks, and ideas.
Is your drummer tired? I would be!
He does not tire. We are convinced that even after the sun has ceased its fusion and collapsed in on itself, Josh will still be drumming away like the energizer bunny.
What would you say people can expect from this track?
A good fucking time. This is a don’t over-think-it, summertime, go crazy, sing along kinda jam. We don’t take ourselves too seriously on this one, and you shouldn’t either. Especially you Janet. Yeah, you. It’s ok to kick back and let loose sometimes yah know.
Can we expect any music videos on the way?
They are out! The music video for this song was a ton of fun. We got our friends together and engaged in a variety of shenanigans. Go check it out. Justin got hit with eggs. It was awesome.
Okay so you all wake up in the middle of the night hungry. What are your midnight snacks?
Eli - Cereal. Whole milk. (All other milk is water doing a shit job to pretend it is milk) Captain Crunch is my fav. Or should I say… Capitán Crunch?
Patri - cereal. Eli has the right idea—stomach doesn’t, which is why I can’t stomach whole milk. But lactaid is a life saver!!! Also, let’s be honest, my diet is 99% cereal and 1% granola—oh, shit. That’s cereal too!
Josh - honey right to the gullet
Justin - Popcorn if I want salty/savory, ice cream if I want sweet, nachos if neither is available.
What would you like to say to fans of the music?
WE LOVE YOU! Literally every time a fan reaches out we are so excited that someone digs our stuff. We got lots more for yah, we aint stopping anytime soon.
