An Honest And Pop Driven Debut from Alana Fisicaro
A debut single from Alana Fisicaro comes through with an honest but cinematically impacting aesthetic that definitely boasts a sentiment a lot of people can relate to, with very honest lyrics that showcase pieces of herself and her personality, along with this sort of edgy but still vast pop sensibility that lets the song breathe but also hit hard when it wants to.
"Evil" feels like it's about a relationship where the other person was maybe holding her back or expecting her to act certain ways. It feels like it's a track about how that person expected things from her just because, and maybe during the relationship she didn't realize it, but now in hindsight, it's all much more clear.
Maybe she wasn't free to be her full self in that relationship, and she had had enough of it. Maybe she wanted to break free of the constructs that the other person expected of her because it felt like it was too much pressure.
Or, maybe she just knew in her heart that that's not the way things are supposed to be.
Now, this is just how I interpreted the song; others may take it a little differently, but for me, the sentiment was right there in my face.
One of the things I love about this track is the way it builds up musically. It starts a little bit more delicately, bringing that spacious feel, and then it sort of grows as it unfolds.
Vocally, she lays in loads of hooks, which is super fun. The verses are really catchy, the choruses are huge, and the track is a total banger, but it also has this aspect of slow burn to it.
Not in a bad way, and a great way. It brings you up to those climactic points perfectly, and on the way there, she delivers these vocal hooks that are so melodically addictive that you end up humming those parts in your head long after the song has ended.
The track definitely features some amazing synth work and keys that really help build a natural forward-moving flow, but at a certain point in the song, everything hits, and the track is in full swing.
When this happens, the beat is super heavy, it's got additional sense, and there are also these guitar parts that come in with a tremolo effect on them, which helps breed that cinematic backbone I spoke of earlier.
This is certainly a track with layers to it. Textual layers coming from the instruments and massive hooks coming from her voice. She's really able to lay in that pop-overcoat while still being super honest and straightforward, letting all of that inner thought out, and although it does have some emotion behind it, it's not really coming from a place of sadness, but rather from a place of aggression, in a sense.
Again, it's not overly aggressive or anything. It's just coming from that place of being done with the situation and not feeling bad about it.
Looking back and saying, " Wow, I'm glad I'm out of that one. I can't believe I went through that."
So, it's spirited in that sense, but she definitely doesn't hold back in terms of letting loose and getting some of that emotion out. I think that's what creating music like this is absolutely for.
The fun part about it is that others can relate to it, and they feel like they understand exactly where she's coming from.
I think we need music like this in the popular world. Music that just comes from some genuine place, you know it's experience and life, you know that it's real, and this is what she needed to do to get it off of her chest.
The message has been sent. I definitely dig how she is both vulnerable but unafraid at the same time, and it does showcase how she will hopefully be releasing more songs in the future of the same nature.
I want her to keep being open like this. I would love for her to keep releasing catchy songs, really pop, confused, radio-friendly, and honest.
I think that the personality that comes with the song is one of the main things you get attached to.
She's really able to put that out there for you in a great way, and she's also able to be very descriptive with her lyrics so that again, that message comes through loud and clear.
This is definitely for someone.
But, don't just take my word for it, listen to this track right now and don't be afraid to turn it up.
