A Classic Feeling Post-Punk Release From Bear & Lion
The latest from Bear & Lion brings out quite a cool combination of tones with an edgy approach and it all gets rolled up into this wonderfully woven post-punk vibe that feels both cinematic and even slightly haunting at times.
The self-titled album release is an absolutely perfect showcase of a youth and songwriters that are influenced by some classic bands and the way that they put their own twist on things is borderline brilliant.
This combination of instrumentation both natural and digital is quite a piece of work and the production and mix of this whole project was done with a keen sense of detail.
The guitar tones and hooks are all super in your face and it makes for a great way for the songs to get stuck in your head.
As a matter of fact, the hooks vocally are even more impactful most of the time and the way that the entire band sort of feeds off of each other's energies is something that makes you want to see them live.
You get these massive and vast tracks that give off such anthemic styles that they just become embedded in your brain.
When the album is done you kind of feel like you just watched a film and you walked out of it back into the sunlight again.
You have to kind of find your footing and snap back into reality.
And I absolutely love albums that do that because that's what some albums are supposed to be for. They are an escape in a way. Just like a good book, a good album should be an escape and should take you to a different place.
It's been quite some time since a record of this caliber has been brought to my attention especially in this particular genre because you don't hear a lot of this genre often enough.
This alt pop and post-punk style is something that was a real groundbreaking genre for its time and has been around for decades but a lot of people have seemingly forgotten about it.
This to me is absolutely ridiculous because so many bands that people love are influenced by classic post-punk acts.
Either way, Bear & Lion pull all of this off with a certain swagger and charm.
That may sound strange but they just have their own way of doing things while at the same time really painting this love letter and ode to the classics.
Props just have to be given for stuff like that. The reason is because it's really not easy to do.
This band has an absolute love for their craft and you can hear that with every note played and sang.
More than worth your time and definitely more than a few gems for your playlist.
