Becky Raisman Drops A Diverse New EP
The latest EP release from Becky Raisman delivers a beautifully diverse and eclectic set of songs that all have a wonderful pop overcoat and bring to the table such lush character and personality that you can't turn away.
This is a record that showcases the artist's ability to pull from different influences and create in the moment. She is putting out songs that feel free, spirited, and certainly range in genre and approach.
The EP is called Earth Goddesses, and the first track, "Moonlight Goddesses", delivers a vast tonality with amazing guitar work and intricate vocals that lay in this hook-riddled but cinematic soundscape, and it all creates a beautiful and forward-moving flow that invites you to drift along with it.
This is an outstanding introduction to the record as it opens the door for some particular kinds of staples that you can expect to hear throughout the full EP; however, as I mentioned earlier, this is very diverse, and there are no two songs that are alike.
This first single really gives you a lot of that robust and bountiful songwriting approach with layers of textures and tones that create depth, and you end up swimming through this song and all of its semi-shimmering tonalities.
This is a very elegant track, and although it has some experimental underbelly, it never strays from that pop sensibility.
Becky is an artist who knows exactly what she's going for. It is amazing to me to imagine where these songs begin. Because Becky is her own songwriter, it feels like she must have a vision for these songs in her head before they come to fruition.
This song also brings out certain elements in the arrangement that let you know she pays attention to those aspects of the songwriting as well.
The song delivers waves of intensity and that spacious atmosphere, still very welcoming, but almost fantastical at the same time.
This was one of the more beautiful songs of the bunch, in my opinion.
The second track in line is called "Live It Up, Live It Loud", and I got attached to this one because it connected with me very quickly. This was because she's so honest. She really just lets a lot out and is pretty unafraid lyrically.
This track, to me, was very humanizing. It lets us all remember that we're human and we may not know what we're doing half the time, but we still move forward with things anyway. We can't let the unknown get in our way; we just go with the flow.
This track reminds us to live while we're here. Grasp the moments that are offered up to us, and love as much as we can.
This is what I mean when I say spirited. She has a very spirited approach to her songwriting, and you can tell that a lot of the inspiration she pulls from is authentic.
She utilizes different parts of her life to harness her creativity, and it's an excellent approach to songwriting because we all want to hear songs that come from some real place.
Becky Raisman always pulls from these kinds of places.
This track has a sort of ska-punk undertone to it. It's got electric guitars, and up swing beat, it feels good to listen to, it's colorful, it has a great attitude, and she delivers an unbelievable artist presence throughout this whole thing.
This all builds on the character and personality I mentioned earlier. She's always giving you chunks of herself in her music, and she comes at you with a vibrancy that just grabs your attention.
This was one of the more fun tracks on the record, super danceable, and again, it was inspired by classic ska-type songs that you can really get into.
The third and final track on the release is called 'Shining Through My Window", which feels more like a contemporary pop ballad of sorts. I love the guitar work on this one and how it's piano-based because it delivers such a welcoming warmth and its tonality.
It still has a lot of that pop sensibility, as the rest of the record does, but it offers something a little different.
This is an EP you should listen to all the way through from start to finish because, again, they are all different from each other.
The EP certainly shows different sides of how she writes her songs, where she grabs her influences from, and how she has a freeing approach to songwriting, and uses life experience to boost that genuine undertone you hear in all of her music.
So, take a deep dive into this one, and I'm sure you will thoroughly enjoy it.
This was a record that offered a lot.
