A Personal and Classic Rock Single from Bloodkin
A new single from Bloodkin recently dropped, and this track hits a great sort of Southern swagger, with classic rock thriving throughout its entire soundscape, layers of guitars, and a bit of a colorful approach.
"Enemy Within" doesn't waste a lot of time giving you an idea of what you can expect, especially with those guitars. The guitars are layered in such a unique fashion, each playing something a little bit different than the other, and creating this huge lushness that still manages to remain almost easygoing.
This track has an amazing flow to it, and then also has to do with the drummer.
The drummer knows exactly when to open up, start hitting those ride cymbals and let the song vibe.
It definitely has a pretty deep-pocketed groove to it, which is something I really enjoyed, but again, it's got a hint of edginess, and loads of this almost vintage, classic rock appeal.
A lot of that vintage tonality comes from not just the guitar tones, but the way things were recorded. The drums also have this kind of old-school feel to them; this is the aesthetic they're going for, though. They want to give something that has an indie rock overtone, but definitely derived from classic rock through and through.
The vocals only add more to the swagger. The vocalist has a bit of an animated style, reminiscent here and there of Bob Dylan in the way his tone comes through and how he performs.
There's also a little bit of echo effect on the vocals, which really adds some layers to how the vocals come across and gives the song
As the song opens up, you start hearing little licks of lead guitar here and there, all riddled with that same soulful taste.
Those elements also add to the touch of Southern undertone the song delivers.
There's a great little bridge section where the drums sort of go off and give you some rolls on those toms, letting the song build up to that final chorus, which works amazingly.
There's something about this track that makes me think of bands like the Rolling Stones. It's just got that overtone to it, and I think it's because I haven't heard a rock record that has this kind of aesthetic and feel in quite some time.
It does a great job of giving me little bouts of nostalgia here and there, and it's very addicting in terms of how it comes across.
The track has a lot to chew on, and lyrically gets a bit personal, as the track seems to focus on uncertainty and basically questioning not just the outside, but yourself as well.
This is a robust rock single that keeps this cool sort of attitude, and that is another aspect I've missed in rock music for quite some time.
They also managed to put out this almost live performance kind of energy. I think it's the way the guitars come across and how they feed into each other. The guitars seem to complement each other quite often throughout the course of this single.
The layers kind of bounce off each other, and I love how it feels because it's so full-bodied. There's a lot of Sonic presence because of all of that thick guitar action happening. Again, it's not super raw in terms of its energy. It's not over the top. It's got this almost mellow rock appeal, and that's part of the style.
Now, as far as I can tell, this is a glimpse of an upcoming record set to drop a little later this year from the band, and if it's got more tracks like this one, I certainly can't wait for it.
This single will certainly keep me at Bay for the time being, and I don't think you want to miss this one.
This is for people who really get into classic rock, once again, with genuine vintage tonality that just feels right.
There's a certain kind of warmth to the texture of this entire track.
It's almost inviting.
