Brick Turpin Continues To Serve As The Musical Voice For His Trade

Brick Turpin returns with a very vintage-feeling folk single that follows the artist's stapled "trade folk" approach as the track gets into his bricklaying and building profession.

The single delves into the costs and struggles of the trade, building houses for people, and going through the annoyances of dealing with clients who want something in particular, but don't always want to pay for it.

This is a common thing in many businesses, but when it comes to construction, renovation, and building, it's incredibly relevant because it happens often.

Someone asked for something very particular in terms of their design, and how they want to feel when they're sitting in their house, but when it comes down to how much it costs, sometimes they don't want to have to pay that much.

Again, this is a pretty normal situation when it comes to the trade, but that can get frustrating after a while.

The song also focuses a little bit on how things lose their value when people don't want to pay full price for them. It also hints towards the loss of quality in terms of building because if someone doesn't want to pay a certain amount for what they want, the materials will have to be cheaper as well.

This doesn't just bring down the value, but it also brings down the quality of what's being built.

Instead of building something of real quality, like he wants to do, because they don't want to pay full price, they'd rather have a house built with plastics and goop rather than concrete and brick.

Again, I can totally understand where he's coming from with this because it does sound pretty annoying.

Those same clients might come back later on and complain about how the work was done with cheaper materials, even though they are the ones who didn't want to pay the price it cost for the right materials.

The song focuses on a clean, acoustic guitar, stripped down and beautifully done.

The vocals give you a great hooky set of melodies, and the whole thing comes off almost like a vintage bar drinking song. When you listen to it, you can almost hear a group of builders in one place, beers in the air, singing the song together.

It's almost anthemic in that sense.

It's a little sad. Just the idea behind how a builder and bricklayer by trade wants to make something that's going to last. He wants to build something of quality and be proud of it.

That's very hard to do when working with cheap materials because you have to.

The brick-laying tradition is very old, and the quality of work has always been of the utmost importance. Of course, times change, and you have to roll with it, but it's not easy for some.

Soon, some percussion comes in along with the Acoustics and vocals, but everything does feel almost like a live performance.

You were able to pay a lot of attention to those lyrics and really get pulled into the premise of the song, so you can hear the message loud and clear.

I think the most important aspect about this track and a lot of the other songs that Brick Turpin releases is that they are honest.

He's very unafraid to put these kinds of sentiments and messages out there in a very clear manner. The songs come through as authentic as you can get, and I absolutely adore that vintage tone in the performances and instruments.

He's able to lace in a little bit of color with those melodies and hooks, but all in all, this is a track that does send a message, and it's pretty outstanding how the artist is able to bring his natural trade to his music in this manner.

Definitely check this out, and while you're at it, you should also dig into some of his previous releases like "White Van Man" and "Makers Design" as well.

Don't miss out on this because it's very unique.

Brick Turpin serves almost as the musical voice of the trade.
