Broncos Return With A Killer New Single
Broncos return with the new single that hits everything from punk to thrashy alternative, and hints of math and some of the guitar work and refs that make this very unique and still super driving with belting vocals and immense guitar tone.
"Hold Me" wastes very little time getting straight to the point as vocals come in almost immediately, and a lot of the vocals done on this track are performed in a very particular way.
All of them have a forceful feel. Even the melodic singing is again, belting out loud, so it's got this crushing energy, but at the same time, those melodic vocals are being performed, there's also a screaming or more grittier vocal that follows along and is pushed a little bit into the background, giving the vocal effect more edge.
I thought this was a brilliant idea because it does, in fact, add a different sort of layer to those vocals, and it brings out some of the more hardcore, heavier elements and influences.
The cool thing about trucks like this is that you have the thrashing sort of heaviness, and the guitar tones are a blend of heavy but also a little bit subtle at the same time, so that when the mathy parts come in, you can hear every note perfectly.
This is a very particular and unique balance of tones between those guitars, and you can tell there was a lot of thought that went into that aspect of it.
When it gets to that chorus, everything is pretty robust. It's an anthemic style chorus, so the notes are held out, the guitars and drumming are just Full Throttle, and everything is right in your face.
This definitely has a blend of some over-the-top heaviness, but at the same time this radio-friendly kind of alternative rock vibe and aesthetic that works amazingly.
The drummer, as usual, is outstanding, pushing the song into this realm of vibrancy and intensity that the rest of the band really just sort of feeds off of.
Again, those choruses are where everything is just sonically massive. The guitar tones are at their heaviest, the drumming is absolutely slammed, crash cymbals are just everywhere, and that kick drum cuts through everything perfectly.
I really dig this one a lot because I'm hearing elements of that classic '90s heavy rock feel. It is alternative rock, yes, but it also brings to mind some of the grunge aesthetics that you'd hear in the late '90s and even early 2000s, along with plenty more rolled in.
Pop-punk is definitely included in that mix. Some of the sections that happened right after the main chorus definitely lean into that pop-punk feel, some extra and added guitar layers are coming in and out, doing these great octave notes, and the whole thing is just a very thick and lush feeling.
The song was also really brilliantly arranged so that it has some room to breathe and goes through its different parts with a smoothness and a flow all the way up to that final section.
Again, I love how the vocals are performed here because at times it feels like crew vocals that you'd hear in old school punk-rock songs. I think it's always just one main vocal doing the belting singing along with that screaming vocal that lies just underneath it, but can still be hurt perfectly, but it does feel bigger when you hear it all at once.
This was a banger of a track, and I'm not surprised at all coming from these guys.
This is a band that really knows how to, not just pay tribute to the bands that they grew up loving, but really reinvent something so that they have their own sound by blending all of those influences together in one song.
Also, the way they deliver that heavy-handed energy is just outstanding, and if you're not too familiar with Broncos before now, then you've been missing out because they've been releasing some amazing stuff throughout the past few years.
"Lover", dropped just last year, was a killer single, and it's something you should definitely be listening to as well, especially if you like this one.
Having listened to their releases recently, I can hear a bit of an evolution in their sound and more blending of those genres, along with the way they build this huge atmosphere.
You'll have to listen to the song to see exactly what I mean but go ahead and jump into that now.
You won't regret it.
