An Interview with Bronnie
The latest single release from Bronnie pulls together this outstanding, country feel with incredibly lush instrumentation, robust but smooth vocals, and an almost theatrical undertone that tells a detailed story, and it all comes together like pieces of a puzzle that you want to stick around to see how things play out.
The track is called "Tea For Two", and comes through with a story that would come from an old western film. It's about a saloon owner's wife who has been betrayed and decides to take her own revenge.
I'm not going to give everything away, of course, you'll have to listen to the song for that; however, the description and detail lyrically is outstanding and really helps paint pictures in your head as the song unfolds, which is one of the best aspects about the entire thing.
This single is laid out amazingly. The arrangement is perfect, if you ask me. This is a country single that features some killer guitar and banjo work, amongst other classic, country, and southern tones, but it all comes together to create this atmosphere that does indeed tell this tale perfectly.
The song does have a great edginess to it and gets sort of heavy, to an extent. I love it because, as the story unfolds, things get more intense, and so the song follows suit.
There are some amazing transitions that happen, and at a certain point, the vocals become just super intense and robust, full of flavor, attitude, and character, which is one of the most powerful aspects of the track in general.
What I mean by this is that the song is character-riddled to the brim. This is also why I mentioned that it felt theatrical. It's such a story with characters that all play a part, and you get it from this personal perspective, which is quite genuinely done simply because Bronnie took the time to format this and articulate it all lyrically so that you can read through everything and hear exactly what's going on as it is happening.
Because of this, you also have a lot of emotions that sort of run hot. Betrayal comes with aggression and also underlies other emotions like sadness, but everything feels so fluent the way that she does it.
The musicianship across this track is pretty amazing. It comes down to how everyone was on the same page in terms of not just telling a story, but musically following along with the moods and intensities that the story tells.
I think that is where the key factor of how this song works so well lies.
Throughout this all you have some great hugs, massive choruses that stick with you for hours after the song has ended, and of course, such vivid and full-bodied tones coming from the guitars, banjo, live percussion, rock guitars, and everything else involved.
Bronnie really put a lot into this, and you can tell that it's a song that was very well thought out both musically and lyrically, which is why it has such a natural flow and comes together exactly the way it was intended.
This is like a master class in songwriting. It tells that story, gets you engaged, has loads of hooks and driving choruses, and also builds in intensity from music to vocals.
This is the kind of thing we look for when we want a track to reel us in and take us away from wherever we are and whatever we're doing.
This song pulls you into a chapter of a story, and I absolutely loved how it came out.
I'm sure you will too when you listen to this track, and again, this is a country rock style banger that holds very little back and was articulated beautifully by all parts.
With the release of such an incredibly well-woven single, we had a chat with the artist to find out where this came from, see how close we are to understanding its premise, and find out what may be coming up next for Bronnie.
So, while you listen to this track, read through the interview below. You don't want to miss this one.
TSWS: Let's talk about Tea for Two! This is a massive track that hit heavy handed Country-rock tones and robust vocals along with such a character riddled premise! What is this song about and where did it come from?
My band and I go live on tiktok doing livestream gigs if we're not on tour and a fan commented telling us how she needed to hear the song we had just played because she found out her boyfriend was cheating on her! The chat popped off and everyone was joking about how to get him back and someone commented ’throw a deadly tea party!’ Well.. that was a great song concept! And an hour after the stream, Tea For Two was written!
TSWS: I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I love Ashley McBride, Aerosmith, anything country rock!
TSWS: Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?
I built a home studio a few years back, fully soundproof too so no one in my house gets woken up at 3am!
TSWS: Do you work with particular producers for your releases?
I worked with my producer Peter Gebbie who is also my guitarist! I’ve known him for over 10 years now so working with him is great
TSWS: How did this all start for you as an artist?
I started doing musical theatre as a kid and totally got the bug to play live! I started writing country songs when I was a teen and playing shows in the rock scene when I was around 18 and now I’ve transitioned to country rock I’m loving both! I got to play some awesome shows in the past, playing a stadium supporting Little Mix was a highlight!
TSWS: What are you performing on the record?
I write all my songs so I’m songwriting a lot and obviously on vocals, and my band play the rest.
TSWS: Are you performing live right now?
I’m off to Nashville this weekend so I’m playing some writers rounds over there! Then I’m planning a headline tour next year for my album release
TSWS: Now that this is out, what's next for you as an artist?
Finishing recording album 2! Still can’t say when it’s going to be out but hopefully I can tell people soon!
TSWS: Who's in your headphones right now?
Anything Emily Ann Roberts!
TSWS: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?
Big, bold heavy country rock!
