A Beautifully Woven Album from Conchis
A new album release from Conchis delivers a gorgeous and vast soundscape that comes in a flowing manner and has the ability to swim around in the air that surrounds you as these layers of beautiful textures open up like petals of a flower in a way and with the unfolding of the songs you get such a unique set of flavors that it becomes enticing and alluring very quickly.
The chapters album is something that you have to listen to from beginning to end because if you listen to only one or two tracks you may get a slight gist of what you might expect but, you will not get anywhere near the full spectrum of what the album has to offer as a whole which is incredible by the way.
These songs bear a unique breed of honesty and storytelling in the form of such rich lyrical content and warm and welcoming vocal approaches that come in at times almost angelic, and others almost haunting but either way, you're getting something that feels lush and smooth.
This was a very outside the box record especially in terms of its production but it was also in terms of the arrangements. These are not your standard cookie cutter pop songs and this is part of what is so attractive about the record from the get-go.
This album is more of an experience than just a record and most certainly has the ability to pull you away from your surroundings to put you in this other worldly place which to me is a gift.
The record is an escape. It has a fantastical tonality that feels succulent and rich.
Certain songs have a calm and almost peaceful tonality while others have a more robust set of tones and instrumentation that feel big and a little bit driving.
There's something so different about this album and it's approach and part of this is how the songs at times, can interconnect with each other in different ways and how the record plays off almost like a book and each track would be like a chapter from this book.
There are layers to be soaked in and there are secrets and surprises around the corners so there's a lot going on with this record and it's the kind of album that you listen to with headphones on to really be able to soak in everything that's happening musically.
They're all kinds of beautiful notes that float around in the ethers of some of these songs and if you listen to it the first time around without headphones you might actually miss some of that.
I love how the vocal style sort of changes in morphs to the vibe, the feel, and the character of the song itself musically. I find that to be very intriguing and this is part of why the record has so many surprises.
By the time you get maybe three or four songs into this album you begin to expect the unexpected and that is one of the most refreshing things I've heard in a long time.
So, what is this exactly?
This is a form of ethereal dream pop that expands into other subgenres and bends those genres along the way so it's brilliantly put together and is released with much fewer boundaries than the norm.
Every element of the record is put together with great attention to detail but it never loses this heart or personality that it starts with and that might be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
It is riddled with genius percussion synth and key textures and sounds, and a mix of digital and natural instrumentation that blend together seamlessly.
This is for people who want to experience something more than just listen to it.
You will probably not feel exactly the same coming out of this as you did when you went into it.
It's sort of transcendent in a way and for me, it gave me a strange sense of peace in certain areas but it also gave me tension in others. Some songs are about struggle here. There is a sense of tension in their undertone.
So again, it is almost like reading a book and each song being chapters in the book.
This was a super intricate and flowing record that had so many graceful and beautiful tones that I needed to listen to it twice in a row to really grab hold of everything that was going on.
Most definitely listen to this record in full with headphones.
But, do not miss this.
