An EP Release from Conzemius Is Here
A long-awaited EP release from Conzemius has finally arrived, and it was completely worth the wait, as the record can pull you into this gorgeous, flowing atmosphere that it's so easy to get swallowed up by, but feels amazing to do just that.
The Of The Water EP is not only dripping with personality but also gives out such Lush honesty and sections of inner thought that are meant for you to soak in.
Songs are all a little different from one another. Each track showcases a different side of her artistry, performance, songwriting, and even personality.
The full EP release feels almost like a concept record as songs seem to interconnect with each other in different ways, and even if I'm incorrect about that. Even if this is not a concept album at all, this is a record you want to listen to from start to finish.
Listening to one or two songs from this release may give you an idea of what you might expect to hear on the record, but will not give you the full spectrum of what the whole album has to offer.
The record wastes very little time getting you engulfed in the soundscape with its first and title track, "Of The Water", which features a few different tones of keys that give a drifting and floating feeling, along with a sort of vintage dulcimer sound, which goes along with a bit of a jazz underbelly.
What's cool about this track is that it gives you some of the best staples that the record boasts.
It works incredibly well as a song to introduce this release with.
Her vocals are alluring and a little sultry, with a beautiful sort of smoothness to them, and you end up paying a lot of attention to the lyrics because they end up pulling you in as much as the surrounding waves of beautiful soundscape.
Now, right off the bat, you get the feeling of a late '90s alternative soul pop kind of approach. Something like Fiona Apple, but a little different.
There's a kind of raw energy to it that comes through. It's not an energy that's over the top, but it's just genuine. There's an authenticity behind the whole thing that puts you in the moment with her.
Because of the vastness of a lot of these songs, they come across as cinematic and with great depth. You also almost always have that hint of edginess in the tonality.
"Be There" is the second track on the record, and this one has a bit of an orchestrated and very theatrical approach. The vocals sound amazing when they're singular, but when she doubles up her vocals, she uses them almost like walls of sound, and they come through with such power and impact.
You can also feel a lot of emotional drive behind songs like this, and can easily tell that a lot of this music came from some real place.
As the record unfolds, you begin to realize that these are songs that serve more like chapters in her life.
She's openly giving little pieces of herself on this record, and they are given both musically and lyrically with fewer boundaries than what you may be used to.
"Library" is the next track, and this one has a semi-ethereal, indie pop sort of vibe, still balancing between a current and a 90s soundscape, and this is in itself one of her staples.
Being able to utilize synth and ketones and sounds to help balance the line between a very current indie-pop feel and a classic '90s one is genius, and it's strewn throughout this entire release.
One of the most spacious and deepening tracks on this record is the fourth track called "Broke The Chain", which certainly reveals a lot of personal attributes and musically is expansive and one of the more cinematically driving sounds throughout the release.
This track is particularly beautiful and performed with a lot of heart, letting you get wrapped up in the sentiment of it and washed away by the music of it.
The next track, "Getting Closer", comes through with so many layers of orchestrated since and pads that it feels almost symphonic in its tone and texture.
I love the way she balances her vocals with a track like this one. She does an outstanding job of showcasing her approach and getting her message across, but her tone also blends such an almost fantastical element to the music because a lot of the music is a blend of natural and digital instrumentation.
Her vocal tone adds such a robustness to that mix.
Probably the most beautiful track on the record is its closer called "You".
I love how the first and the last tracks on this record feel so much like a dream.
These are songs that you can close your eyes and swim through. They are so wonderfully woven and built, showcasing so much heart in a performance with a very particular warmth.
This is a record that's easy to fall in love with.
Again, I urge you to listen to the whole record from start to finish. Listening to this in one shot will not take you too long, as the record's only about 23 minutes.
Take that time to listen to this release. Close your eyes, kick back, and take this all in because it's quite a wonderful experience.
It's more than worth it.
