D'Lee Releases A New Single "Sunday Girl"
D'Lee always releases music that manages to step ever so slightly outside of what feels like her comfort zone, and the latest in that string of single releases absolutely serves as a perfect example of exactly that.
Many of us know the artist as performing country, rock, combination of both of those genres with soulful approaches and folk infused undertones. This new track delves into a different soundscape and experience, and it works amazingly because she combines roots Americana and country with this pop overtone, and pulls it off in such a unique sense that it does step outside of her normal soundscape quite a bit.
"Sunday Girl" features banjo, great guitar work, her classic Soulful kind of swagger-riddled and southern-toned vocal approach, but it also has this pop mix to it.
The beat of it feels natural but also digital at the same time, complete with stops and claps that drive the song, but give it this almost digital feel.
Now, as I said, you can certainly hear all that southern swag throughout this track, and that's her sweet spot; she pulls it off amazingly, but this song showcases how she's unafraid to go different places and take different directions.
When you hear a new track from D'Lee, you almost start to expect the unexpected.
You know you're going to get the soul, southern Country feel, and robust vocals, but you never know which direction she's going to take in terms of the production and songwriting.
I admire this simply because she's not an artist who sits in one spot. She takes her time to delve into these other soundscapes to see what will come of it and with a track like this, it's clear that it's a smart move for her.
I think Songs Like This keep her on her toes in terms of being a creating machine. And when I say that, I mean in the best way possible. This artist pumps out songs left and right, and they're always so addictive, come enticing, a little different from one another, and showcase her incredible presence as an artist at all times.
The way this one is built and produced feels so cinematic to me. You can picture this track in the scene of a film or a TV show.
She does amazing things with her vocals, always, but this track utilizes back and forth vocal tracks that are almost callback style. There are multiple vocal tracks, rhythmically in different spots helps really add a lot of depth and texture to the song itself.
She's also someone who uses her vocals as an instrument, a lot of the time, and this track is no exception.
You can also hear these kinds of soft organs going through the background of the track, and this also adds a little bit more depth to it, while boasting a bit more thickness in the production.
Organs like this also add a little bit more soul to the already full-bodied and lushly soulful approach and soundscape that you hear.
This was a brilliant combination of genres that she was able to just bend enough to create something that feels new.
She is going out of her way to really do things that are going to challenge her a little bit, and in turn, she's putting out music that expands her catalog in such a unique fashion,
She's opening herself up to more listeners and different styles, and she again is just unafraid to release music that feels good to her and makes sense to her so because of that, songs like this end up just feeling freeing. A lot of her music feels this way.
If you're unfamiliar with D'Lee then you should familiarize yourself now. Starting with this track is one of the best ways to go, but she releases tons of amazing singles, and you should absolutely dive into those as well.
