A new single and music video from Daphne Parker Powell delivers such a beautifully theatrical feeling soundscape with a very lush and warm set of tones and instruments that create a wondrous atmosphere to go along with lyrics that paint pictures until stories from those personal perspectives and those lyrics are vivid enough for you to paint a picture in your head as the song plays through.

One of the things I really adored about "Scorched Earth & The Flood" was how in-depth it went with that wording and those lyrics, but also how it brought together this again theatrical sense blended with jazz and contemporary, a combination that does indeed create its own presence and lets the song come through with this wonderful flow.

This track has no dull moments whatsoever. It is riddled with beautiful and welcoming tones coming from guitars, a clarinet that flows through the entire song and really adds an amazing texture to everything, along with some horns, live percussion, and an upright bass that gives that thick bottom end, and again, has a strange way of putting you in the moment with the song.

There's so much going on here, but it feels so good to listen to. This is a song that pulls you in so many different ways. The music and the instruments can give you this flow and rhythm, amazing progressions, and hooks, while the vocal performance delivers a lot of the same, but also lyrics that are telling you these stories, and at times they can be so descriptive and detailed that again, you can really picture them in your head.

It sounds, and sort of feels like a song about self-discovery in a sense. The way she puts things in the song makes it feel like things she is feeling and experiencing are shaping her and letting her realize certain things about herself.

It's about living life and how it's kind of like an experience or a journey and what that does to a person in terms of shaping them into who they become later in life.

I find this to be very true indeed, and this is just how I took the song. It could be completely fictional, again, it is very theatrical, so it could just be something that was thought of from a fictional point of view, but when you listen to it you connect with it almost automatically.

You have a way of putting yourself into those situations as she describes them with her lyrics.

There is plenty of emotional draw coming from this track as well, but really, the whole thing just feels alive and breathing.

The clarinet work is absolutely outstanding, performed by Caroline Brunios, who is well worth being noted simply because she had so much flair and attitude to the song.

Daphne is an amazing vocalist and songwriter. You can tell that she loves singing, but I feel like her strong suit is actually putting together songs like this. Being able to have an idea for a song and bring it to fruition at this caliber is outstanding and almost unreal.

There's something about the song that gives you a noir cinematic feeling. It's got that film-esque underbelly to it, and I love this because it's something that also helps pull you into this completely different world for a little chunk of time.

For me, the song served as a little bit of an escape. It was like reading a classic story of a book in a sense.

When it was over, I had to snap myself back to reality again, and I absolutely loved that.

The song does come with a great music video as well that also gives you some of the lyrics up front and visuals, and also sort of visualizes certain aspects of the stories that she is telling and the lyrics that she is going through.

I feel like the vibe of the video follows that sort of cinematic and almost Noir style, as it is in black and white and often has layers to it, giving it more depth and really aligning it with the song itself.

This is a very unique aesthetic, overall. It's one that you can sort of swim through and touch. I really enjoyed that aspect of it a lot, and I feel like this is a song that speaks volumes for the artist in general.

As far as we know, this is just a taste of an upcoming full album release, set for this summer, and I certainly can't wait to hear the rest of it.

This is for lovers of theatrical, cinematic, jazz-oriented, vintage-feeling, storytelling kind of music.

I would definitely suggest watching the video the first time you listen to the track because it does an amazing job of once again, displaying some of those lyrics and lining up the aesthetic of the song perfectly.

Take a deep dive into this one.
