Daphne Parker Powell Releases A Soulful and Honest New Single
A new single from Daphne Parker Powell delivers a massively soulful approach with blues undertones, along with this lost set of instrumentation featuring plenty of horns, guitars, piano, and more, all adding to the southern tonality and bringing things to a warm feel, while Daphne lays in honest lyrics that sort of paint a picture of a kind of relationship gone wrong.
"In The Soup Until The Pot Rots" is a track that feels like it's about getting used by someone in a few different ways.
The Way She lays out the lyrics is metaphorical but really straightforward at the same time, somehow. She's amazing at articulating what she wants to get across, and she does so with such a cool approach that you pick up on it by the end.
Now, this is how I interpreted it. Others may take it differently, but for me, that is what the message was; that's what the story was.
And it's an honest one at that. She's speaking from life experience and giving the truth. This is a track that showcases a bit of personality, which is nothing new for Daphne, as she usually portrays character in her songs pretty strongly, and with an unafraid touch.
Her vocals are so unique in that she's got a great vibrato, and it portrays a lot of that southern soul along with the rest of the song, so that you have this heavy-handed element of blues and soul coming together, as they do naturally, and being performed with an elegance that is clearly all her own.
As the song unfolds, she takes you through the story of how she perceived things being stuck in a relationship that felt a bit draining and smooth, certainly repetitive.
I loved how it all came across and how Daphne always manages to lace her music with these hooks that bounce around in your brain for hours after the songs have ended.
She's got a unique style, but it's still welcoming, warm, and familiar. The tone of her voice complements the instrumentation across the track incredibly well.
The track also has certain elements of classic rock from the late '60s and mid 70s with organs running through the background of the track, giving it a little bit more depth, along with the piano and even strings that feel semi-orchestrated but mostly build on that soulful aspect even more.
It's a very full-bodied single. All of this instrumentation comes together and creates this atmosphere that is just very authentic and graceful at times.
That's sort of hinted at and mostly due to the horns in certain kinds of other instruments that come into play, laying in melodic licks and hooks here and there, building on the song's robust but smooth soundscape.
This is a single that showcases a lot about how Daphne is able to create without boundaries and really put her heart into the music, while keeping things truthful, but also a bit light-hearted at the same time.
Although the song has a real story behind it, there's an essence of that almost Whimsical lightheartedness in there, keeping it very well balanced. I think she does that on purpose so that the songs can still come through with all the color they do.
She's an excellent storyteller, and this is a truck that's a perfect example of exactly that.
This is a relatable track, especially for those of us who have been in a relationship or situation like that.
The way she expresses it with her lyrics and words is really what makes this special.
Definitely check this one out because it really speaks volumes for the artist, and as far as we can tell, this is another single that's leading up to a bigger release in the near future. I'm certainly looking forward to that one as I'm sure it's going to showcase even more of Daphne's boisterous and honest personality.
This is an artist who puts pieces of herself into her music, and that's crystal clear.
Listen to this song along with some of the other recently released singles like the outstanding "Speak No Evil" on Spotify, and keep a lookout for more, because I'm sure they're on the way.
