D'Lee Wants To Take A Good Time Too Far
If you are relatively unfamiliar with D'Lee and her music, it's time that you open your ears to it. She keeps releasing amazing singles, and each one she drops showcases a different side of her personality and how she writes her songs.
The artist always gets a little bit personal and is unafraid to speak her mind, letting a lot of inner thoughts come out, and it's something that feels refreshing most of the time.
Her latest single is no exception to that rule as she lets go a little bit and takes down some of the walls that may be built around her, releasing a song that is a bit freeing, and again, I'm afraid to sing her thoughts out loud and let the chips fall where they may.
"Take A Good Time Too Far" is a feel-good, uplifting, and spirited single that expresses a lot in terms of leaping forward and sort of realizing that you want to take the next step in a relationship or a situation.
I adore how D'Lee gets personal this way, and a lot of her music expresses those thoughts in the back of your mind that your average person might be afraid to speak up about.
This track also ventures outward in terms of her musical prowess, often featuring an Americana and Country tonality. Although the song still boasts those aesthetics, it also has a beautiful flow with lush and layered vocals that come through almost ethereally.
The choruses of the track are thick with these beautiful vocals, and the Melodies and approach are bright but still have this very soothing and smooth overtone.
You can indeed still hear that Americana feel throughout the track. She doesn't really move away from that necessarily, but instead works a different approach into those southern roots.
I enjoy this because it showcases how she's an artist who is able to take those different directions and make them work seamlessly.
Every time she releases a song, I know it's going to be awesome. I know there's going to be a little piece of her in there, or she's going to hit a topic that I can relate to. She almost always has incredibly addictive choruses that bounce around in your head for days after the songs have already ended.
There's also the fact that she isn't afraid to step outside of that comfort zone and create music that bends genres ever so slightly, but just enough so that you pick up on it.
I think that D'Lee is an artist who writes songs based on how she's feeling at the moment.
Or, even, based on what she's influenced by at the moment.
Lyrically, it's definitely genuine. It's always coming from a real place, and songs almost serve like chapters in her life.
In a sense, her songs are like reading her diary.
In terms of music and songwriting, she is brilliant at arrangement and especially performance. Her vocal performance on this track, in particular, floored me.
Just the essence of how she performs those choruses is outstanding. The way that she harmonizes and sets her tones so flush with each other, creating this wall of colorful and vibrant but still silky and smooth vocals, is something I'm still trying to wrap my head around.
This was a gorgeous single from an artist that we've been paying attention to for quite some time now. I'm never surprised at the fact that I get pulled into her music. Sometimes, though, I get surprised by the direction she takes and how well she's able to adapt and change her style to fit her personality.
It's freeing in a sense.
At any rate, I would absolutely check this song out and make sure you're also checking out songs like "A Gentlemen", "Evil Knievel", and going back through some of her previous works.
It's all well worth your time, and D'Lee is the kind of artist you don't just save to your playlist. You start to follow her music, and once you do that, you realize how often she drops these amazing songs.
Check this one out now and listen to some of her previous stuff. This way, you can see what I mean when I talk about how she blends and bends genres to fit her personality, while still sticking to those Southern roots all the time.
