A Wonderful EP Release From Everchanging Laws
An EP from Everchanging Laws bears a unique blend of acoustic and alternative rock tonalities that blend together seamlessly and are performed with an incredible honesty and enough heart for you to take notice.
The Someplace I Forgot EP was a way for the songwriter to let things out that may have been more difficult to just talk about possibly. It does have that little touch of a darker undertone to it at times but that's just because of that Honesty coming through.
Records like this are supposed to be truthful and are supposed to be a bit soul-bearing if you ask me because that's why people listen to music like this. It's so they can relate to it and so they can hear the artist's story and feel like maybe they're not alone and whatever they are going through.
For some artists it is cathartic to create a song that's built from emotional drive because that's how you get it off your chest. These are the songs that have the most reach because these are things that people understand.
That personal one-on-one approach is so addictive because it really has a way of humanizing the artist or performer and that's something that artist should be doing more of.
This EP is three songs in length but within that spectrum, there's a lot of ground that's covered and the songs do vary in Styles as well which is really cool.
Throughout the course of this record you come to know the artist a little bit more and it's really cool how he goes through these different phases of songwriting and arrangement styles because you never get the same song twice which is actually pretty relieving.
Being able to put out an EP that has some meaning behind it but still has catchiness to it and such a great edgy appeal is a bit unique but it's also charming in its own right.
The songs do have an acoustic guitar at the base of them for the most part but that feel opens up to different soundscapes as the songs play through and that gives you a more vast record.
This kind of approach isn't always easy to pull off obviously, but Everchanging Laws was able to do it without a hitch and that's pretty impressive if you ask me.
This is something that you listen to with headphones on when you are by yourself. Maybe a glass of whiskey and a cigarette if that's your thing. But either way, the EP should be listened to as a whole rather than just one song.
It's almost like a concept record in a way whether it be short or not. So there's certain ways to be able to soak this EP in and jumping around the record or just listening to one song, while still being great, doesn't give you the full story.
Pop this one on and have a listen. You'll see what I mean.
