A New Single Release from Flat Iron

9879-flat-iron---as-close-as-it-gets-single-art---4000px-x-4000px-174491860761.jpeg

A new single release from Flat Iron delivers a cross of classic emo, pop punk, and driving alternative rock, all rolled up into one track that boasts tons of personality in the form of honest and descriptive lyrics and massive Sonic drive when everything opens up.

"As Close As It Gets" can be very detailed lyrically, which is part of what draws you into the personality and the story behind everything. This is also what makes the track relatable to a lot of us. We can feel the sort of emotional drive that the song boasts right from the start, and I love how it was all arranged because it delivers such a great build to an explosive section.

Again, you could hear a crossover of different heavy rock genres, and I feel like the pop punk element is pretty evident especially during those verses. When everything opens up and you have the more vast and explosive rock sections, it feels more alternative or even grunge at times but again, these guys are blending influences throughout this entire track but it falls together like puzzle pieces.

One of my favorite Parts about this song is this sort of bridge section with a lead guitar part that isn't a shredding style of lead guitars, but more of a cinematic and intensified buildup to that final chorus section and it works like a charm because you have an ascending guitar line that's played aggressively but with color.

Another thing about this track itself is how the energy comes through.

It feels almost like these guys are recording this track live on the floor and everyone involved was feeding off each other's energies the entire time, giving the song a sort of alive and breathing sensation.

I really dig that aspect as well and of course, I wasn't there so I don't know if they actually did the song that way but listening to the record makes you want to see them perform it live because if this kind of energy and aesthetic can be captured on a track this well then seeing them live must be awesome.

Again, you have a lot of emotional impact on this track. The vocal performances have a vulnerability to them, but that's part of the aesthetic and genre.

You're meant to connect with it in a certain way, and it works wonders in that sense.

This was a wonderfully woven track that you can tell a lot of heart went into, and between the energy level, persona, performances, and arrangement of everything, it's a very addictive single.

I feel like this is the kind of track that speaks volumes for a band like this because it's a standout track. It stands on its own two feet as a single super well and showcases how they can pull a song together that has impact.

They also have an EP that I found. Released in 2023, and has four tracks on it. Every song on this release is also really good. You can hear a bit of an evolution between that EP and this new single, of course, and they dub their EP a 'demo', although the quality is excellent.

Sometimes, if you have a track with hints of Lo-Fi, then the aesthetic and emotion come through stronger. The EP release from these guys is a perfect example of exactly that.

Either way, if you dig this track, you're going to like that record too so I would suggest going to check that out as soon as you're done with this single.

Definitely take a deep dive into this one and turn it up or listen with headphones because it's one of the best ways to really soak in everything.

I am certainly going to be keeping a close eye out for more releases from Flat Iron in the coming months, and hopefully, something shows up soon.

If you listen to this track, you probably will too.

Remember where you heard it first.
