A Warm and Heartfelt New Single from Florian and the Better Hand
A beautifully woven new single from Florian and the Better Hand delivers an incredibly warm set of tones and sentiment that wrap themselves around you, and it all feels like a hug from a loved one.
But I think that may be part of the point. The song is about loyalty, in a sense. It's about relationships and feeling comfortable around your people. It doesn't really matter what the relationship is, just that you know you feel a certain way around them.
It's a song about love. It's very heartwarming and comes across with a delicate folk approach that reaches into acoustic pop because of its brightness that sits firmly below the surface, and it's something that just feels good to listen to.
"Little Song" isn't just about love or comfort. It's about the song itself being a comfort. This is a song that was written for someone who can listen to the song and feel that comfort just the same.
This was so awesome to realize because as the song unfolds, the lyrics get very descriptive and, of course, very loving. But you soon start to realize that it's actually a song about this little song being something that lets that person remember the love and the warmth.
Even if that person is not near, the song can be, and such an inviting sentiment strikes a chord.
You can definitely tell this came from a genuine place. The authenticity is loud and clear, and the performances on the song from all parts are outstanding.
You have an amazing vastness in the undertone of this entire track. It almost feels cinematic because of it. That spaciousness adds depth and helps push the emotional backbone of the track even further.
In a way, this is a duet. There are both male and female vocals that sing different parts and sometimes sing together. This also adds a little extra texture to the single and showcases how the vocals work amazingly as counterparts and complement each other.
The pop sheen is always there. No matter what, even though this is an emotional and heartfelt single, the pop sensibility is never let go of. I really adored that because it's not really about being catchy; it's more about having a certain kind of aesthetic that comes through.
Some of the other depth comes from the effects that are on some of the vocals. A lot of the instrumentation and vocals have a certain kind of reverb effect on them, which also adds a slightly distant tonality and makes the song feel a bit dreamy.
There is a very slight percussion coming from just a shaker, and this sort of keeps the rhythm of things.
The acoustic performances are absolutely perfect. It's pretty outstanding how the guitars display the same kind of emotion as the vocals do. That, to me, is really impressive.
Everyone was obviously on the same page, right down to the mix of the song itself.
I don't always touch on the mix of a track, but here I think it's important simply because without the right kind of mix and wetness on the vocals and the instruments, it wouldn't come across quite the same.
This really displayed that greater sense of warmth and everything fit together like puzzle pieces.
The song is a brilliant way to introduce yourself to the project.
After listening to this one, I had to take a bit of a dip into their catalog on Spotify, which I'm glad I did.
There's a new song called "Shyfire" that is just outstanding as well. This one has even more of a sort of sonic presence in vastness, especially coming from the vocals.
These are songs that you can sink into. It's amazing to get engulfed by the way the soundscapes come through. Again, it feels good to listen to this music.
Others like "Forgotten Man" hit with a bigger, more contemporary pop sound, more percussion and beats, and vocals that are less soft and more robust.
I would definitely suggest checking out a bunch of their singles, and believe me when I tell you, there is plenty to dip into.
There's an abundance of singles, and each one of them is a little bit different, showcasing other sides of personality and artistry alike.
So, introduce yourself with "Little Song", but don't shy away from checking out the rest of their stuff because if you like this one, you're bound to like a lot of their other material.
There are no two songs that are super alike, and they branch out when they want to, but it's all brilliant.
I also want to mention that listening to these songs with headphones really does the trick. You really get swallowed up by all the textures and tones coming at you that way.
Definitely take a deep dive into Florian and the Better Hand as soon as you can and remember where you heard it first.
