A New One From Fretbenders
Fretbenders, helmed by Bob and Diane Kordas residing in southern New Hampshire, quietly unveiled Long Overdue back in 2022, a release that slipped under my radar until recently—an oversight I'm genuinely grateful for rectifying. Right from the onset of "Somebody Left Me With The Blues," there's an undeniable allure that immediately drew me in.
The raw, intimate vibe reverberates with the energy of a live performance, conjuring images of a gritty dive bar. The slide guitar and piano intertwine, evoking the sense of a band playing in the present moment.
Each track on this offering exudes its unique essence. Whether it's the introspective depth of "Will You Be My Darlin’ Anyway" or the evocative holiday-themed tones of "Long Cold Winter," the album navigates through diverse emotional landscapes. Yet, amidst this exploration of moods, the constant thread remains the impeccable songwriting. "Empty Pocket Blues" and "Small Town Girl" boast melodies that linger long after the final notes fade.
Among the gems, "Sunrise On Saturday" stands out as a personal favorite, capturing the essence of its title immaculately—an evocation of the anticipation and optimism that Saturday mornings bring. Not to be overlooked are the noteworthy tracks like "Wandering Soul," "Everything Is Free" and "I Just Want To Dance," each adding depth to an album brimming with stellar compositions.
Long Overdue encapsulates a multifaceted experience, balancing technical prowess with boundless creativity. Yet, beyond the technicalities, it's the album's relatability and genuine human quality that resonate most profoundly.
