A Beautifully Spoken and Constructed Single from
godzhiller and Kate The Poet
A new release from godzhiller featuring Kate the Poet (PR) comes through with a lush and cinematic backbone that feels naturally flowing and brings with it loads of different moods along the way.
Part of the beauty of this track is that it features so much progression as it unfolds. It begins as a light, electronic-based piece of work with brilliant keys and a spacious undertone, and gradually grows into a bigger, more filmic piece of work with strings and an intense approach.
The track is definitely laid back and has a bit of a chill approach, which is something I really liked because it lets you soak in not only the mood but the lyrics.
The single features spoken word by Kate the Poet, and she does an amazing job of displaying her sentiment and message quite clearly.
As you go through the facets of this song, you get the understanding that the point is that love is something we need now more than ever.
There are many struggles in life, problems with the world, and instabilities when it comes to communicating and understanding that, as people, we are one.
This is part of why the song is called "Remedy".
She displays the notion that love is the remedy to so many of the problems going on within ourselves and the world, all at once.
This is not a new sentiment, but one that is expressed with a different approach this time around.
Her lyrics are detailed and beautiful. She makes you think and understand. In the end, you can totally feel where she's coming from with all of it and can relate 100%.
The thing about her approach is that it's cut and dry. She doesn't hold a lot back, and you can tell it came from some place incredibly authentic.
It feels almost as if it might have been cathartic for her to actually write and put it out there.
She expresses how there's so much chaos in the world and how we need to bring calm back into it. This is so connective, not just for me, but for a lot of people.
We can all see how chaotic the world is. Everything feels unbalanced and unknown.
It's almost like no one's on the same side.
The song expresses how we can change our ways and help resolve and ease some of that chaos if we put our minds to it. If we put our hearts to it.
She articulates her words so that you can paint a picture in your head as she goes on. There's a certain level of intensity that comes with what she is saying, and there's a lot of emotion behind it as well.
The instrumental aspect of the song is what helps push that emotion even further.
The violins and string sections are absolutely gorgeous, and there is this almost sorrowful aesthetic to everything.
This is a song you listen to more than once, just so you can soak everything in.
It gives you a lot to chew on and speaks a lot of mind, in a beautiful but heavy-handed manner.
The music and instruments sort of flow and invite you to float alongside the soundscape of what it delivers. It's very engulfing, and you will absolutely get swallowed up by everything that it puts out there, especially by the end.
Again, godzhiller is absolutely brilliant at building the intensity and emotion of everything. She is completely natural at sculpting sound and letting the listener connect emotionally to the lyrics and words even more than you would normally.
To me, this is like a musical match made in heaven.
It is a wonderfully woven piece of work that everyone should really hear.
The blend of digital and natural instrumentation is outstanding, as the tones and textures come together and an atmosphere rises.
I suggest listening to this one with headphones on for instrumental and lyrical reasons. You want to take everything in, and the best way to do that is with headphones on.
This way you don't really miss anything in terms of those textures and the way things build, the emotion, or that lyrical articulation that reels you in and speaks volumes.

This was a beautifully constructed song with plenty of depth! First of all, how did you both meet and end up collaborating on this song?
godzhiller - JJ from Oblongsquare Records brought Kate and I together - obviously already having a creative vision of sort. I`m always happy for those kind of opportunities and I think we created something really unique combining lofi-music and spoken word.
Kate - We met through JJ (the head of oblong square records) and connected via Instagram Dms.
This poem in particular came out naturally as a response to the state of the world locally and internationally.
godzhiller, did you come up with the beat fist? Are you also performing violin on the track?
godzhiller - I came up with the track first, yes. When creating the track I thought about velocity more than usual, knowing that Kate`s poem will play a main role on it. So I tried to prepare some kind of canvas for her. I then altered and adjusted the track after Kate recorded her part, which made everything come together. The violins are my signature sound. I like to record those musical landscapes with violin-arrangements, blending lofi-hiphop and classical elements with a lot of layerts and depth. Kate, what are the words about and how did you come up with them? Kate, were you attracted to the beat straight away?
Kate - I gave godzhiller a general description of what I wanted the beat to sound like and she truly knocked it out the park. I loved it right-away.
Are you both planning on working together again?
godzhiller - Actually yes! I`m working on an album right now, that will be released as a cassette tape. I`m collaborating with differents musicians wordlwide from a whole range of genres and I would love to have Kate on this tape!
Kate - Personally it would be an honor to work with godzhiller again. She’s very talented and extremely good at what she does.
godzhiller, did you mix the track, or did you have an outside producer on this?
godzhiller - I came up with the track and mixed it. JJ took care of the master in this case and I liked a lot what he did. I normally record, mix and master all by myself.
Were you both happy with the end result? What are each of you inspired by when you write?
godzhiller - I am very happy with the result! I like Kate`s voice and her words so much - in combination with my composing-style! I`m making instrumental tracks for years now and it`s great to try something new every once in a while. I get inspired by random things like the smell of coffee, the sound of wind through the trees or a particular shape of clouds. I think I`m actually more influenced by my classical music-education than I`m ready to admit.
Kate - Yes, I was very happy with how the track turned out. I’m inspired by my surroundings and the ebb and flow of daily life. I’m also inspired by some of the great poets who paved the way. Poets like June Jordan, Maya Angelou, and Miguel Piñero.
godzhiller, who are some of your bigger musical influences?
godzhiller - I have a varienty of musical influences. I grew up in a house full of classical music and I learned to play the violin for years playing composers like Bach, Mozart or Accolay. Later on I listened a lot to Björk and I still love how she challences not only herself, but the whole music-industry with what she does. But I listened a lot to German hiphop in the late 90s or to grunge-music, too. I draw inspiration from all of it, because it represents different parts of my life and feelings associated with it.
This was a brilliant piece! What would you each say about what people can expect from this song? Do either of you have anything you'd want to say to fans of the music?
godzhiller - Combing spoken word with music that is deeply felt can create a message with some kind of power, of force. This transcends the concept of lofi-music being background-music, that you put on when you study or work. Kate´s words are there to be heard, not to be consumed in a passive way. This is art. And I`m proud of what we created.
Kate - I would say people can expect raw unwavering love and concern for society as a whole. To the fans thank you for taking the time out of your day to listen. Always remember they are many sunny days ahead never lose hope.
