Goth Fight Cage Is Back With A Swagger-Riddled New Single

The new single from Goth Fight Cage, back ends early 2000s indie rock like no other. The track boasts slightly fuzzed-out guitars that open up and start hitting a little harder during the choruses, addictive swagger-riddled vocal approaches, loads of attitude, and a pretty fun and sort of unique storyline.

"Girlfriend's Girlfriend" is about exactly that. It's a friend of your girlfriend's that you're kind of into in different ways. Some lines talk about how she's like a mother to him, but there's more beneath that surface, it would seem.

That's how I interpreted the song anyway.

This was really fun and had a great pop coating to it. It was catchy, loads of fucks, especially during those courses, then even the verses came through with a sort of hooky approach.

This track balances that swagger, not just from the vocals but with the guitars as well. Even the drums have this almost swing feel to them. The rhythm is deep pocketed, and it allows those guitars to really be sort of freeing.

The progression is awesome, and I think part of the key to why this works so well is that it does have the air of a live performance in a sense.

The energy is also very well balanced, and it feels almost like they tracked this whole thing in the studio together, at once.

There's a little bit of looseness to this. I think that's why it makes me think of the early 2000s indie rock style. There's always been this kind of nonchalant, almost carefree, semi-whimsical aesthetic to indie rock of that era, and this track manages to capture that feeling incredibly well.

It's all in the performances. The way that they play the guitars, along with the bass guitar tone, how the drums are performed, and of course, those vocals just add the maximum amount of style to this piece of work.

This was absolutely memorable, and the main ref itself that comes in towards the beginning and after the verse is really addictive. It's got a little bit of a blues or a slight southern underbelly to it that I liked, but it has that kind of dirty tone, which almost goes along with the lyrics, to an extent.

As I mentioned earlier, the lyrics aren't dirty. However, it does give you the feeling that this guy in the story is more into his girlfriend's friend than his girlfriend herself.

I love the idea behind it, and the way they put it together absolutely works.

There are sections during the track where everything kind of thrashes out a little bit harder and heavier, the drums lay in some awesome fills, and the drive sort of builds up, then it exhales a little bit back down to the verses again.

It's a track that's almost alive and breathing.

This is definitely a radio-friendly single. Not only does it have some boisterous hooks in there, but again, it's got the pop element in there. That pop sensibility is pretty much always there, but they blend it in with a bit of a gritty or dirty guitar tone, all of that swagger and attitude, and a brilliant energy that lets the song sort of thrive.

The cool thing about it is that it's not really over the top. It's just addicting. They're not going crazy; they're not aiming to layer you with tons of Sonic drive; they're giving you a track that walks the line between that classic indie rock feel and a bit of a detailed storyline, but in a light-hearted way.

This track follows another one that I really enjoyed called "i'm not in love with you", which has a bit of a higher energy, takes a bit of a different approach, but still captures the same kind of aesthetic and feel.

Here's the kicker. This whole thing is actually a solo project helmed by Mark Holloway, who, as far as we understand, actually performs and records everything himself.

This changes the game a little bit and makes it more intriguing, to me anyway.

Being able to have an idea for songs and bring them into fruition the way that Mark does it was pretty insane. It's an amazing thing to hear, and it makes you wonder about the process of it all.

Anyway, definitely check this track out along with the past few other singles released, because it feels like they will be part of something bigger upcoming.

On Spotify, they all have the same artwork, and when you listen to all three songs in a row, they feel like they belong on the same record.

I'm not verifying this right now, but one has hopes.

Check this out right now so you can dig into this stuff.
