Hilary Cousins Releases "Island"
A brand new release from Hilary Cousins delivers a unique breed of honesty and that comes through in this almost classic rock and blues undertones track which is absolutely riddled with great guitar parts, addictive progressions, and a sort of atmospheric ambience that sits in the undertone of the song giving it an almost expansive feel but it's the character that's delivered on the track that you really end up getting attached to.
"Island" and almost psychedelic undertone at times because you have these flowing sections and chorus affected guitars that float through the songs ether here and there giving a vast feel and this is something that I really enjoyed because it makes the song have an almost cinematic approach at times and this works very well for it because of the story that the track actually tells as well.
I'm not going to give the entire thing away of course but the lyrics can get so detailed that at times you can even paint vivid pictures in your head as the song plays through and I find that to be very connective and almost like a really cool little Escape for a few minutes of time.
This aspect of the song makes it so intriguing because it's almost like reading a chapter of a good book where it pulls you away from wherever you are for a little bit and puts you in a different place.
This is not something you get all the time so when it comes along it's really revitalizing and refreshing.
I definitely love the freeing feeling that this track gives and you can definitely hear influences of different decades and layers of classic rock that are infused into the song and how he used those influences to create something that's not only all his own, but also a sort of owed to those kinds of genres and artists.
There's definitely a few little surprises around the corners and the progression and arrangement of the song is something that also draws you in because it's got such a smooth and forward moving flow while combining a color and a little bit of edginess at the same time.
The vocal performance also breeds that classic rock feel and it works perfectly for being able to tell a story like this one with such description and such detail.
There's definitely a few hooks and guitar licks that stick in your head for a really long time after the song has ended so for me, I found myself humming verse melodies in my head and the only way to satiate something like that is to go back and listen to it again.
I love being able to get engulfed by this song and eventually washed away with it as well and if you are someone that likes a song that sort of swims around in the air that surrounds you and wraps itself around you then this track is for you.
A stellar performance by all parts and this whole thing is delivered by someone who has an absolute love for the craft and when I say that I don't mean just playing guitar or singing, I mean writing full-fledged songs to put into the world because there is something to tell.
But don't just take it from me, check the check out when you get a chance and see how it affects you.
