Hollow Star Delivers A Post-Punk Heartbreak Single
An honest new single from Hollow Star delves into broken relationships and comes through with a very personal perspective, depicting some of the trials and tribulations of not just heartbreak, but being in a situation that you know isn't working.
The attention to detail when it comes to the lyrics is outstanding. The artist hits hard with brutal words that are woven from pure emotion.
"Sunset" hovers around the idea of being stripped of love and even a piece of who you are. It's about taking part of your dignity, and the aftermath of it all.
One of my favorite aspects about the song is how he does not hold back. He's very straightforward, is unafraid to let all of those thoughts come out, and it feels like it was massively cathartic for the artist to write and release.
The song also has a bit of an introspective look at oneself. It also balances the idea of being disappointed in yourself along the way.
So, there are a lot of different angles that this track comes from, and the lyrics are articulated in a way that makes you sort of connect with it almost automatically.
I think it takes a lot of bravery to drop a song like this because it says a lot about his personality.
The track most certainly hovers around a post-punk sort of feel. It's got a vibrancy to it that becomes very addictive, but it does have that brooding overtone along with the certain effect-coated twang coming from those guitars that you often hear from the post-punk genre.
He does branch out past that at certain points in the song, laying in additional guitars that overlap and come through with a little bit more Distortion and intensity. This goes right along with the overall intensity of the song, which rises to a climactic point towards the end.
The guitar work across the board is pretty awesome. He's playing some great riffs. The guitars are clean and crisp, coated in a chorus effect, letting it feel sort of watery and dripping.
There's also that great ambience in the song's underbelly that shines through, and even the drums have this reverb on them, which feels like a classic post-punk to me.
I think that he was going for a very particular aesthetic, and he nailed it. This whole thing was built and put together with a soundscape in mind, and it feels completely authentic from start to finish.
There's actually a lot about this song that gives me a little bout of nostalgia, because I grew up listening to a lot of this kind of stuff.
Again, this is brooding music. It's something that comes from the heart and the self. It is putting a lot out there and doing it fearlessly, or so it would seem.
One of the cool things about this genre in general is that it's also quite catchy. There's a heavy pop sensibility that comes along with it, and Hollow Star absolutely honed in on that.
"Sunset" has great depth, plenty of guitar giving it layers and texture, and the whole thing displays a slightly filmic tonality.
This is an artist who definitely knows how to put pieces of himself into his music, build a song to a certain point so that you can feel that emotion rising up, and have a genuinely honest overtone that you can't escape.
When you listen to this song, you relate to it because he's so upfront about what he's feeling and what happened.
Again, this is really about the aftermath of a situation and how you feel about yourself along with the other person, in the end.
It's a lot to deal with and certainly takes its toll on one's emotional perspective.
I think he delivered this exactly the way it was meant to be delivered.
I would definitely check this one out as soon as you can, especially if you love classic-style post-punk with a bit of raw emotion behind it.
Being a bit familiar with Hollow Star, I'm absolutely digging how he went in this direction and used life experience to create something that feels real.
It still rocks out, again there are amazing guitar parts here that hit hard, but on all this is something that he needed to put out there for himself.
It's also kind of a beautiful thing because it can make people in that situation feel like they're less alone when they hear a song like this.
I'm not sure if the artist realizes that he can reach someone like that, but he certainly can.
That's part of the beauty of music in general.
