An Honest and Pop-Riddled New EP from Horologica

The new EP release from Horologica brings out a flurry of pop tendencies that cross into everything from cinematic to commercial, indie, and plenty more, all blended up into one juicy record that also delivers a lot of honest personality along the way.

Part of the beauty of the I Want It More Than Anyone EP is the simple fact that he's coming from a genuine place with pretty much every single track. The record plays through almost like a diary of his life, with each song being a chapter in that diary.

I definitely connected with a lot of this stuff, and I think that's because he articulates his lyrics in a way that you can relate to where he's coming from.

This is an artist who paints a picture for you. This is a picture of who he is and some of the things he's been through, but it all made him the person in front of you today.

The record starts with the track called "Love Yourself", which is wonderfully woven and delivers some of that commercial pop attribute along with a beautiful sentiment that puts us in the moment with the song itself.

The track feels like it's about a situation where there's someone in your life that you feel like could love themselves more. They need to open up, put themselves out there, have a little self-care, and believe in who they are as a person.

At least that's how I interpreted the song.

Others may interpret it a little bit differently, but I took it this way, and because of that, I automatically connected with it because I've been in that situation before.

A lot of us have people in our lives, even right now, who we wish would just love themselves a little more.

It's a show of gratitude, appreciation, and the desire for others to feel good.

As I said before, you're starting to get a picture of who Horologica is and the things he cares about.

All of this just in the first track, which, by the way, does a great job of opening up for the rest of the record.

"Feather" starts bringing out more of that cinematic pop backbone, with beautiful synthesizers and keys, luscious, silky, almost like instruments themselves, and a certain kind of warmth in the tone of everything.

This track felt incredibly inviting, and it speaks volumes once again for the artist as a person.

"Kiss Me" may be the catchiest of the group, with an incredible hook that just bounces around in your brain for hours after the song has ended.

This track has a little bit more edginess to it. It's still very colorful, bright, and packed with pop sensibility, but it's got some great production styles to it that make it a little more hard-hitting at certain points.

This is an artist who absolutely knows how to reel you in with a great hook. All of the songs have incredible hooks that keep you coming back for more.

The songs like "Timezones" start showcasing more experimental sides with vocoder-ish effects on the singing and a smooth, almost hip-hop-influenced kind of beat.

It's about this track where you start to realize that Horologica is pulling from a slew of influences that he holds close to his heart.

You can tell he's inspired and influenced by everything from Indie pop to hip-hop, R&B, a little bit of rock, and even experimental electronic.

This whole thing bends genres. Once you get to a song like this one, you start to expect the unexpected. You know the next track is going to be good, but you don't know exactly which way he's going to lean with it.

"Wii" is definitely another pop-riddled banger. It had some great, almost synth-pop style soundscapes to it, very driving, and again, he just comes in with these bright Melodies, even in the verses.

Now, I have to say one of my favorite things about this release is the closing track, which is the acoustic, stripped-down version of the first one, "Love Yourself".

I love this approach. It's very clean, you're able to really pay a lot more attention to all the lyrics and words, and the message comes through even clearer than it did before.

I dig having this style on the record because again, I really didn't expect it, so when it came up, I was really blown away.

He also sings a little differently because it's an acoustic guitar.

The song sounded much more personal this time around.

This was an immense release with a blend of brilliantly approached styles and genres that came together to build an atmosphere that felt authentic.

Don't miss out on this one.
