The Latest Drop from Hunch Power
Delivers An Anthemic Sound and Statement
Hunch Power returns with a fresh new single that leans heavily into indie rock but certainly blends elements of punk in the mix, which is part of their normal formula, but this track has a lot to say.
Now, don't get me wrong, we're definitely fans of this band, and they usually pinpoint their songs by sending a message or telling a story.
"Sick Sick World" is focused on the state of the world today. Now, this song may be interpreted a little differently depending on who's listening, but it definitely has a lot to do with the state of society and how we should be doing more to change things in a positive manner.
The song feels like it's revolved around things like global warming, social media, and more, but it's really just generalized in terms of how we are sitting around holding our breath, waiting for things to change when we're the ones who can be making that change.
Of course, this is easier said than done, and I think that this song displays a very anthemic tonality in terms of speaking out for the masses.
I feel like we all want things to change. A lot of us are divided in different ways, especially politically and socially, and this song reminds us that we can make that change and kind of unite as one.
It's a blend of dark and light. This is mainly because it hovers around once again, just waiting for the change. Holding your breath and hoping that things are going to be different tomorrow. But it also talks about taking a look inside yourself and finding a way to be a part of something bigger than you.
Once again, this can be interpreted a little differently, but for me the sentiment was pretty loud and clear, and I think these guys did an amazing job of standing tall and speaking out.
These guys are not always political or environmental, but this song showcases a little bit of a different side to Hunch Power and how they care about topics in the world and how people think.
This also contributes to some of the punk rock side of the band.
A lot of punk rock can be quite political or socially based, and these guys really took the reins on this one.
The guitar tone is right in that sweet spot where it's heavy but it's not over the top. It's not a thrashing song, but it does have a great edgy overtone to it.
They always know how to pull off an addictive pop-rock single, and this track is no exception. As a matter of fact, this is a great track to introduce yourself to the bandwidth.
The drums are very driving; they sit firmly in that pocket but also bring a great liveliness and electric energy to everything, so the song comes through with a punch.
The vocals really help that punch hit harder, as they feel like they have a classic punk tendency and attitude. They kind of belt out but still focus on being very melodic, delivering massive hooks in the chorus.
Those vocals do come through pretty powerfully and robustly, but also have some great harmony sections throughout the song that really add layers and color.
It's a very lush single. It has a full-bodied rock feel, but that brightness is always there.
It's kind of a fists-in-the-air, sing-along type of single, and it makes you want to go see them perform it live.
This is a band that also has amazing energy on their releases, which also makes you want to see them perform live, in your face. They managed to capture a great sort of synergy in their songs that never stray from that pop undertone, but also aren't afraid to branch out and portray a little hard-hitting attribute in terms of the tones of everything and the drive.
I love seeing this band get a little political, if you will. It is definitely something that brings awareness, and it's cool to hear a band like this song about topics that affect the entire world, and not just ourselves alone.
It's something that's connective and completely relatable, displayed with hooks and vocals that bounce around in your head for hours after the song has ended.
As I mentioned earlier, this is a great way to introduce yourself to Hunch Power, and if you dig this track, which I'm sure you will, I definitely suggest checking out "Does It Hurt?" 2025's "All I Do Is Survive", which also reaches into the state of the world, the country, and financial distress.
So, as I said before, they're not afraid to get political or social, or talk about topics that affect everyone.
Their songs come through like anthems for regular people, and I have always enjoyed that about this band, but this new single really speaks volumes about how they're able to tackle topics that we all deal with or think about but feel like there's nothing we can do to change.
This is a reminder that we can change, and that you're not alone in having those thoughts or feelings, or going through certain kinds of struggles in life.
Sometimes we all need a little Hunch Power to get through.
So, dig into this new track now and check out the rest of their catalog because it's more than worth your time.
