An Interview with Jennie Angel

A new single release from Jennie Angel delivers a unique breed of honesty with a sort of warm and spirited sentiment that talks about how even though things may have been hard in your past and struggles may have been had, those are the things that make you who you are.

It's a strong sentiment and something that a lot of us can actually relate to because she works it with such integrity and power that you can connect with it almost immediately.

She tells her stories with great detail throughout the song, painting vivid pictures in your head as the song unfolds.

I think the most important aspect, and one of the things I love the most about "A Letter To My Past Self" is the personality and character that it delivers wholeheartedly.

Those are the attributes that have an impact on this song.

Because they're so relatable and her performance is so memorable, you can feel that hint of vulnerability and how a song like this may have been cathartic for the artist to write and release.

The song is musically robust and has some amazing builds in terms of its Arrangement. It starts slightly more stripped down, so you can pay more attention to the lyrics, but then it explodes into a bigger soundscape and a full band approach a little bit later on.

The choruses are absolutely huge and driving, but the whole thing has this Americana backbone to it.

That southern tonality is perfectly done, and it helps the song's aesthetic come through the way it was meant to.

Her vocals are full and have heart. This is an important aspect of why the song works. She gives her all in her vocal performance, and the impact of that is what makes the lyrics work so well.

This is a song that gets you thinking about your own life, which is a wonderful connection to make.

Even though she's telling detailed stories at times and being a bit descriptive, you still have memories of your own that pop into your head randomly throughout the song.

I found that to be very refreshing, and I absolutely loved the energy of the single all around.

This has a unique energy to it, almost like it was recorded live on the floor, and everyone involved was just feeding off each other's energies the entire time.

That kind of aesthetic is very infectious, so the song gets under your skin quickly, and I mean that in a good way.

The chorus is everything here.

It's got a perfect level of emotional drive behind it, while the band is in full swing as well, so the music itself also has a great drive, and some of the guitar work is just outstanding.

You can tell there was a lot of attention paid to the tones of those guitars throughout the track.

This was a memorable track that you end up singing in your head throughout the day after you listen to it.

The only way to satiate that is to go and listen to the song again, and although you may think that's just smart songwriting, the natural flow of the song is evident too, so I think this is just how Jennie writes her music naturally.

It was obviously a track that had some depth and meant a lot to Jennie, and all of that is displayed in the performance along with the lyrics.

This was coming from an artist who has a true love for her craft and gives pieces of herself in her songs, which I feel is so important for any artist to do if they're writing songs of this nature.

With the release of such a well-woven and heartfelt single, we wanted to have a chat with Jennie to find where exactly this came from and what may be coming next for the artist.

Here's what happened.

TSWS: Let's talk about "A Letter To My Past Self"! This is an honest and warm single that felt spirited to me!  Where did this track come from?

I started writing it after being home from Texas for a while. Reflecting on the past and how even though it was painful, it made me who I am today. I took what I had from that song and went BACK to Texas to meet an amazing ghost writer who helped me finish it. We laughed and cried and drank bourbon in an upstairs conference room of the Hotel Drover in Fort Worth Texas

TSWS: I'm hearing a few different approaches to this record! Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Hanson, Miranda lambert, Maroon 5, Lainey Wilson, Kurt Cobain, Miley Cyrus

TSWS: Did you record this at a home setup, or at a big studio?

Eric Dalton Productions: the Hudson valley’s best producer and metal artist. What are you performing on this track?

Acoutic guitar scratch track but Eric fixed it all

TSWS: How did this all start for you as an artist?

I’ve always written songs and performed in open mics but By singing in bars I realized I could get paid from singing so I took it to the moon.

Are you performing live right now? Yes 👏 all over the country

TSWS: Now that this is out, what's next for you as an artist?

Completing my album and playing bigger stages

TSWS: Who's in your headphones right now?

Post Malone, Lainey wilson, Eric Dalton

TSWS: What would you tell people they can expect on this release?

Raw honest self reflection

TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?

Look inside yourself and really know who you are. It’s the only way you can ever be better. Don’t compare yourself with others because everyone’s journey is different.
