An Interview With Jovanna
A fresh new single from Jovanna brings on a youthful pop feel with colorful tones and an edginess that lurks just beneath the surface along with a ton of character and heart that lets the song flow in a particular way.
"Stupid Face" is a pop soiree that comes through with plenty of heart and a lush feel in the vocals that becomes quickly infectious.
There are hooks left and right especially vocally and the whole thing feels current but also brings together different subgenres of Pop that end up feeling almost like a '90s radio banger at times.
The vocal performance across this track is actually incredible and holds nothing back in terms of really belting it out there and showing her amazing range.
Even with that, the single holds something special because the track itself is produced really well and there's something about it that feels like you've been hearing it on the radio for a few years already which makes it familiar in a way but also incredibly crisp and refreshing.
The great thing about this is actually a love song and it just goes to show you such a creative and inventive new form of love songs that are happening right now with the youth and songwriters that are out there.
Song really portrays how people are writing music with fewer boundaries and doing things in more of a free space so that they come out the best that they can.
Any art form with fewer boundaries is going to be better and better.
Jovanna is a perfect example of exactly that.
There's also something warm about the song that makes it feel almost like a summer sunset with a loved one.
There's an absolute metric ton of character on this track and it feels good to listen to it nice and loud.
This was danceable and catchy but it also has an aspect of smart songwriting that shows an attribute of mature songwriting which rounds everything out really really well.
This is completely appealing to people of all different ages and I think that's what makes it so special.
Jovanna has several single releases starting in 2021 and each one shows a little bit of a new side to her and her artistry.
It's really good to have an artist like this show evolution in songwriting because artists should show that evolution as they evolve as people.
With the release of such a fresh new single, we wanted to have a sit down with the artist to see where this actually came from and what might be coming up next for her.
Here's what happened.
TSWS: Let's start things off with "Stupid Face"! This track certainly had a great pop flow and the vocals were massive and lush! What is this single about and how did it come to be?
First of all, I just want to say thank you for having me back for Stupid Face! This song is all about finding that special someone who makes you feel totally comfortable being your true, authentic self. This song was actually inspired by my wonderful boyfriend. But you know that someone doesn't necessarily have to be a romantic partner. It could be your trusty four-legged friend, your favorite barista, or even just yourself! After all, the most important thing is that we embrace who we are and feel comfortable in our own skin. And I hope this song can be a reminder of that for everyone who listens.
TSWS: How do you record your music? Is it at a home studio or do you go to a big studio for this?
I currently record my music at a studio near my house, but I often dream of having a home studio of my own. Saving up for one is definitely a goal of mine in the near future.
TSWS: Can we expect any music videos coming from you for this one or any upcoming?
As of right now, my main focus is on creating and releasing more music, so I won't be making any music videos just yet. However, I do have a music video for my first release, "Brain On Fire," that you can check out!
TSWS: Are you performing live for people right now?
Until recently, I was performing live at a small lounge in my hometown. I have one coming up in June in Hollywood, Florida.
TSWS: What would you say is your favorite aspect of doing this?
I have to say that my favorite aspect is doing vocals. I absolutely love singing and whenever I'm belting out a tune, I feel totally free and in my element. There's just something about expressing myself through music that makes me feel alive.
TSWS: Have you been writing music for a long time?
Writing music has been a passion of mine since the age of fourteen. It's crazy to think how many years have passed since then, but my love for creating music has only grown stronger. It's amazing to see how much I've developed as a songwriter over the years, and I can't wait to see where my music takes me next!
TSWS: You have such a great character in your music. Is this something you just let out when writing?
Thank you so much! I would definitely say that this character comes out not only when I'm writing but also when I'm singing. It's like a part of me that I let loose and express through my music.
TSWS: What other passions or even hobbies do you have aside from music?
Aside from music, I am also passionate about meditation and reiki. It has been a while since I last did it so it may be a sign for me to get back into it.
TSWS: Where do you see yourself in a few years musically?
I am working hard to establish myself in the music industry. I hope to continue releasing songs and performing live shows. I also want to go on tour!
TSWS: Is there anything sort of advice you'd give to other artists out there that are up and coming?
To all the up-and-coming artists out there, my advice would be to keep going! Music is subjective, and not everyone is going to be a fan of your work. But that doesn't mean you should give up on your dreams. Stay focused on where you see yourself, and keep pushing yourself to get there. Remember, the road to success is never easy, but with determination and hard work, anything is possible!
TSWS: What do you want to say to fans of the music?
I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for your support of me and my music. It means the world to me! You guys have been with me every step of the way, and I couldn't have made it this far without you. I'm excited to see where my music will take me next, and I hope you'll stick around to see it too. Thanks again for everything!
