Our Interview With Kacey Fifield

Kacey Fifield returns with a catchy, upbeat, and colorful pop-rock single that comes through with a youthful bounce and a good bout of honesty which is very refreshing, especially in a song with such a wonderfully perfect coating of pop.
"HOLD UR PEACE" doesn't waste much time coming right at you with that great level of edginess that you'd expect from Kacey and believe me, this track has that outstanding balance between color and edginess that speaks volumes for the artist as a songwriter but also does an amazing job of showcasing her presence.
Her vocal performance and overall energy are really what drives this song. The guitars are great. The tone of the guitars themselves also adds that edginess but the riffs add the color, but it's her vocal performance that really lets the song thrive and she does it with what feels like so much ease.
She also has what might be a natural knack for amazing lyrical phrasing. The way that she puts the words together in such a way that they rhythmically bounce against the drumming of the track is outstanding.
It just makes the track more addicting.
This is a song that grabs you quickly. It has that vivacious approach and a vibrant, electric energy that's completely infectious.
The production of the song is also really well done. I think this is an important aspect to touch on simply because the producer of the song knew exactly what they were doing in terms of building an aesthetic that would be radio-friendly, and danceable, but also let her character show.
We're not strangers to the music of Kacey Fifield and one of the things that I've always found most prominent in her music is that it all has character. She gives these little pieces of herself and her songs. Even pop-rock bangers like this.
Being able to give a song character is not an easy task so for her to do it with such ease, to me, is outstanding.
She makes you want to pay attention to what she's singing about and the song itself as a whole, makes you want to move the couch back and dance around the living room.
This was a fists-in-the-air, sing-along single that you want to turn up loud while you're driving and belt out right alongside it.
The chorus of the track is, of course, the main attraction and it has an amazing way of sort of bouncing around in your head for hours after it's ended.
This was definitely enjoyable, and it had a spirited and unique way of giving off truths and inner thought while delivering catchy, memorable hooks and melodies along with that bit of sonic drive and hint of attitude.
What a combination indeed.
All this squeezed into a quick 2 minutes and 30 seconds no less.
If you listen to this more than once, I promise you'll be singing that chorus the second time around.
With such a well-woven single we wanted to have a talk with Kacey about the track itself, what's coming up next for her, some of her influences, and what she's listening to now amongst other things.
Here's what happened.
TSWS: Hey Kacey and welcome back! I would love to start off with the new single "HOLD UR PEACE"! The song is a blast from start to finish with such a bright and colorful but edgy approach! Very pop-rock! Where did this song come from?
The song is fully based on the idea I had of using the phrase said at weddings, “Speak now or forever hold your peace,” and twisting it to fit the context of someone sending mixed signals. I made this song with Mike Pepe, Brooke Daye, and AJ Peacox in a nice, air-conditioned room in the middle of the summer, so we definitely enjoyed writing a track with so much energy in it.
TSWS: I would love to know what kinds of things really inspire you as a songwriter? Do you pull from your own life experiences?
I pull from my own life experiences for the most part, but I also find inspiration everywhere. My friends' stories, my dreams, a book I read, a weird ad I saw on the subway; it really depends on the song!
TSWS: Who are you listening to most these days?
I'm a huuuge fan of Lorde, she is such a visionary. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Green Day, Blondie and Metric so I feel like some of the stuff I've been writing definitely feels more pop rock. Aside from that, I love Jeff Buckley, Maisie Peters, and Conan Gray.
TSWS: Are you out there performing live or planning any upcoming shows for this release?
Yes, for sure! I've done a few acoustic sets around New York recently and have an upcoming NYC show on February 15th. Tickets available at kaceyfifield.com!!
TSWS: Do you enjoy performing as much as you do being in the studio?
Absolutely! Performing is actually my favorite thing in the world; I definitely prefer it to being in the studio. When you're in the studio, you're doing take after take of the same part of the song so it can get easy to feel detached from the feelings behind the writing. Seeing listeners in person and being able to connect with them over the music I make is so special.
TSWS: How do you write our songs? Is it lyrics that hit you first? A guitar riff? melodies?
My songwriting process really depends on the song! Sometimes I’ll be sitting with my guitar for hours, ruminating over chord progressions and lyrics I can match to them. Other times, I get a melody and lyric idea while I’m walking outside or hanging out with friends and have to awkwardly pull out my phone to record a voice memo before I forget. I also work with cowriters and producers so sometimes I’ll come to a writing session with a fully formed idea that just needs instrumentation and sometimes I’ll show up with a three-word phrase I think would be interesting for a song and we work it out together. Each songwriting process is unique!
TSWS: It seems like you have several creative outlets! Do you find acting to be as satisfying as writing music and releasing it?
I love both but they are definitely very different sides of the same coin. Acting is so focused on truly understanding and portraying someone else, while music requires me to be vulnerable and think about myself introspectively. Acting has such a special place in my heart, but music means the world to me!
TSWS: What do you think is next for you as an artist?
I have sooo much new music in the works!!! I think I have more fully-written, produced songs in my vault than I’ve ever had so I can’t wait to release it.
TSWS: What is it you are doing when you are not working on music or acting? (If there is any time leftover that is)
I love spending time with family and friends, playing with my 4 rescue cats, going to the gym, and (recently) cooking new recipes. I'm also a full time college student so I'm usually busy with homework or studying as well as the clubs I'm involved with on campus!
TSWS: Is there something you would like to share with your fans before we go?
Thank you so much to everyone who supports me!!! I appreciate you so much <3
TSWS: Thanks so much for this Kacey!
