An Interview With Koolz

4061-unnamed-9.jpg

A fresh banger from Koolz boasts a gorgeously soulful track that crosses borders from classic R&B into pop and back again with alluring and sultry vocals performances and an old school songwriting style that really takes you for a ride.

"Remade" is a soothing and deep groove that oozes heart and clearly comes from someplace real as the song itself touches on doo-wop with guitars, drums and bass nailing the aesthetic.

This track really shines straight away as you get sucked in with infectious vocals that just keep you there as synths swell and electric guitar chords explode with the song's intensity.

This song is like a slow dance but with more edge to it. It's an alternative R&B pop ballad that washes you away with its sound from beginning to end.

What's really addictive is that singing though. The vocals Koolz puts out are not  just soulful but also keep to a classic style but with hints of newer twists and it all feels warm and welcoming.

You come out of it understanding it all. You think of your person. You see certain memories flash through your head.

It really makes you feel and that's something you just don't get often with music these days.

This was a fresh twist on an almost vintage songwriting approach and it works so well it's intimidating.

The release has a youthful gusto behind it that portrays that emotion you want from a song like this.

This was quite a fun one and should really be showcased as an example of a youth in songwriters that are doing things their way.

Clearly Koolz is paving her way in the pop world and doing it with more than what's just on the surface.

She shows presence and character and as an artist you need those things.

This was outstanding on all counts.

Go ahead and dig into this one and while you're at it, check out her previous single "Beach Days" as it brings something different to the table.

With the release of "Remade" was wanted to have a sit down with Koolz to talk about where this all came from. Here's what happened.

TSWS: Okay so let's start off with "Remade". This track came through soulfully and with a power behind it! Where did this track come from?

Someone once told me “momentum moves forward” and for some reason it really resonated with me. As I was writing this one I was thinking about past and present relationships, as well as moving forward on a personal level and being more productive in every aspect of my life as apposed to feeling stagnant as each day, week, month repeats itself (which is a trap we can on relate to) I guess, remade to me means “constantly building yourself”

TSWS: I'm hearing some classic styles on this single. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

My biggest influences growing up was 90’ RNB and ballads. So I’m talking Mariah Carey, MICHAEL JACKSON, Whitney Houston, Boyz II Men, TLC, Toni Braxton

TSWS: So, when did this all start for you?

On my 14th birthday when mum bought me a karaoke machine. Haha. It was all fun and games to be honest, through high school I worked with some amazing producers and artists but being so young and with little guidance, I didn’t pursue anything seriously till about 3 years ago.

TSWS: What's next for you as an artist? Anything in the works even now?

I will be dropping my self titled debut EP next month!  (7/1/22) After that I plan to keep writing, recording and up-skilling next year. Hopefully build more of an setlist to then be playing my own original shows around the country!

TSWS: Do you produce your own stuff?

I’ve been working with the amazing LEMAIRE on this project. He truely brought my ideas to life which is just so special. My voice has always been my instrument so I haven’t been confident enough to souly produce my own tracks yet, but I really do enjoy the collaboration aspect of this kind of work. It makes it innovative and fun!

TSWS: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

Playing with puppies, enjoying the sunshine and beach, perhaps trying a new restaurants or bar (I really love my food and martinis), planning the next weekend getaway? There’s always something to do :)

TSWS: Can we expect any music videos coming from you next year?

You know it! In a couple of weeks the REMADE film clip is out. Following that I have a couple of surprise videos, you’ll have to wait and see!

Do you do any live performances? Not so much at the moment due to covid restrictions, I’ve made some guest appearances however I more so wanted to put all my focus into the creation of this EP.

TSWS: What really inspires you to write?

Real life events and relationships mainly!

TSWS: Who are you listening to right now?

Bit of a mixed bag lately, last four artists I listened to was Silk Sonic, Loyle Carner, Tom Misch, dhruv

TSWS: You wake up in the middle of the night starving. What's your go-to midnight snack? (a question of character here)

PIZZA!! Always PIZZA!

TSWS: This single feels like a big undertaking. Is there any advice you have for other up and coming artists out there?

Just to stay true to yourself, be humble and never settle for second best. Connect and align yourself with those that value themselves and their work as much as you do! Take your time, and don’t rush magic!

TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

Thank you for listening and for your love. I have so much in the pipeline for you to enjoy so please stay tuned. Oh, and also you know that thing KINDNESS…. Sprinkle that shit everywhere!!!
