An absolutely delightful new single from Lisa Michelle Anderson delivers a bit of a story from a particular chapter in her life, showcasing a big piece of who she is. The way she digs into her experiences in California with such detail and description makes you feel more connected to it. It's almost as if you were there with her, and I love this about the song because it's dreamy and bright.

The song is called "California Dreamin'", and definitely portrays the right kind of warmth for the sentiment of the song itself. Not just from the instrumentation, but also from the way she sings.

This is a beautifully flowing song that has a contemporary backbone but a sort of acoustic rock vibe, all coming together to create something that feels refreshing yet nostalgic.

The song boasts a great emotional feel, simply because she is actually being nostalgic about a certain part of her youth. I enjoy having someone tell their personal story this way.

You absolutely relate to it, no matter who you are. A lot of us have this kind of experience when we're young. The want to get out of wherever we are and go to a place where dreams are made of.

For a lot of us, that was California. For Lisa Michelle Anderson, it certainly was. She goes through her personal points of view with such beautiful conviction, and again, the descriptive approach to her lyrics paints pictures in your head as the song unfolds.

Now, throughout the song you have a lot of American elements. It's definitely leaning into the southern set of tones, especially with the guitars overlapping the acoustics. Do you get that country feel in the song's underbelly through and through, and I love that it really helps the premise of the song thrive, because it also gives you that tonal warmth.

The track features acoustic guitar, and another layer of guitar that is just slightly affected so that it's a little dirtier, bringing out some of the rock element, and then a lap steel or pedal steel. I can't figure out which one it is, but it definitely gives you that country texture.

The twang of the instrument adds a lot to the song, as does the sort of flowing of the notes that are held out. It's such a beautiful tonality to soak in and works amazingly with the rest of the song.

Her vocals are also inviting. She's got such a great tone to her voice, and she sings with a little bit of emotion because, again, for her it's very nostalgic. She is telling you about her own life.

She also double-tracks her vocals often during the song, which thickens up everything and helps the song come through feeling very lush.

The music video that accompanies the song itself also showcases a lot of visuals of California, some pictures of her during her time there, and this also solidifies the sentiment and the emotion behind everything.

She is indeed giving you a little piece of her history throughout this song, and it is a wonderfully woven piece of work that feels good to soak in because she's telling you about all these things.

Once again, we relate to it because we all have dreams of something, especially when we're young.

Whether or not California ended up working out for her is not the point. The point is, she became an amazing musician that pores her heart into her music, and because of that, you get a lot of Personality.

I adore music with personality attached to it. This is one of the more character-driven songs I've heard in a while, and I would suggest watching the video to listen to the track for the first time around.

It's really cut perfectly and does an amazing job of lining up with all the lines of the song, and this is how she's visually showing you her experiences as well.

So, dig into this track now, and I'm sure that you will end up connecting with it because she's really outstanding at grasping the emotional factor of looking back and remembering what it felt like.

The single is part of her upcoming album set for September, and I would keep a lookout for that as well.
