With Quite A Story

Lisa Michelle Anderson returns with a warm new single, still leaning into her Americana roots but branching out into something a bit more pop and contemporary-based, and she has a smooth flow on this one.

Her vocals are very inviting as she tells the story of meeting a preacher who does all kinds of things to heal people and starts taking her out to different places. The song is about how she can't stop thinking about that person, and the way she describes it is really personal.

The song is called "Part-Time Preacher."

I'm definitely quite familiar with Lisa's music, and a lot of the time, she does go in different directions but always holds on to those sorts of folk and American roots, which she does here. But I feel like this song heads in a different direction, and she takes that on beautifully.

The contemporary pop factor is pretty strong for me. It's got a sort of laid-back feel, with loads of piano filling the song up with great progressions as she strums the guitar, but it's the vocals that really take you away.

One of my favorite aspects of Lisa's music in general is that she's an amazing storyteller. Whether she's telling these stories from actual personal experience or from an outside perspective, she's painting a great picture for you as the song plays through.

That is one of her absolute strong points: being able to tell the story with the perfect level of detail so that you really get what's going on and, at times, can absolutely relate to what she's singing about.

Throughout the track, she sings about being in the countryside, depicts things like the preacher having rattlesnakes and speaking in different languages, and talks about how he took her out on the back of his motorcycle.

So, it's about infatuation to an extent. She's become a bit infatuated with this person as a whole. I'm not sure it's actually a love song per se or anything like that, but it's definitely about her being enamored by this person and sort of blown away by how vibrant he is.

But it's also about how he is a part-time preacher and does all these other things when he's not preaching. It's almost like living two totally different lives.

During the verses, things are a little bit calmer, and you take in the lyrics more easily that way. When the choruses come in, harmonies start popping up, and the song has a bit more of a full feel to it.

The drummer does an amazing job on this track in particular because he kind of opens up toward the end of the song and starts hitting those rides, giving the song just the right amount of extra drive it needs to flow properly.

Meanwhile, Lisa has some of those harmonies layering in and really gets the chorus and hook stuck in your brain.

This is another thing she's excellent at. She may be honest and a great storyteller, but her bigger talents, I think, are more in making sure that there are some great hooks in her music.

I like that this song has more piano than her usual, and that she leans away from the Americana ever so slightly and gets more into that contemporary feel. It was a great move for her, and for this song in particular, it worked perfectly.

This is a track that works great to introduce you to her as well. If you dig this one, then I would heavily suggest checking out some of her previous releases, as they all show some different sides to her songwriting and her personality alike.

I would absolutely check this one out first and then move back through her catalog from there.

Either way, as I mentioned earlier, you're going to get loads of stories and some great personal perspectives that are descriptive and get you really into the vibe that she's giving off.

So, dig into this one right now and see what it does for you.
