A new single release from Marlon Bianco has a very unique way of blending genres together and creating something that has its own atmosphere. It can also pull you into that atmosphere as the song unfolds.
"Mad Man" definitely has a unique kind of approach that borders things like alternative pop, dream pop, and even indie rock at times and it all still has such a seamless and forward-moving flow to it that it's all very confluent.
The single features some amazing synth and keyboard work which is a heavy basis of the track itself and its tonality. This song has a soundscape that is vast in its undertone because it's got these synth pads that are in its underbelly and sort of float through the song's ether giving it that more expansive feel.
It also has these synthesizers that are on the forefront and these in combination with the beat of the track really make it danceable and almost give it a sort of vintage undertone.
The whole thing creates such a beautiful and addictive soundscape but it also has a little bit of edginess in there as well.
You have a cinematic and lush atmosphere here with guitars, synths, live bass, and drums. You also have things like saxophone so, when you listen to this track, as it plays through, it starts to grow instrumentally and it becomes sort of cinematic because of that.
This track was a kind of escape. It pulls you away from wherever you are and whatever you're doing and it puts you in this other place for a little chunk of time. That to me is like a gift in music.
I love the groove that it gives off and how hard it is not to move to while, at the same time, it does give off that little bit of edginess and robust overtone so even though it's got this heavy groove and is very danceable, it still has this air of mystery to it in a way.
It most certainly feels like this was a fun single to track and the way that this is built and put together gives a little bit of experimental tonality that is kind of freeing and even a little bit psychedelic to be honest.
You get a bit of a live and in-person jazz improv vibe from this at times which I dig also because it's also part of the staple aesthetic of this track.
When I listen to this song I picture myself walking down a city street at night in the rain. Vintage signs up on all the buildings. People everywhere. Some dark alleys in the background. It sparks a lot of imagery.
It gives me this kind of visual that I like. It's almost semi-noir in a way but I found it cool how this track actually triggered that imagery in my head while I listened, and this is also part of why it reminded me of something from a film.
Granted, I am huge on movies and films so this is also why I relate this song to that sort of rainy city street vibe. Everyone might not think of that when they listen to this track of course. That may just be me.
At any rate, it's got a liveliness and energy that it's captured that lets you get attached to it and again, pulls you into this other place for a little bit.
You have to love music that does that. A lot of music is meant to be an escape and I feel like this is a perfect example of exactly that.
I'm not sure how much Marlon is performing on this track but it seems like he's doing close to everything if not everything. He is the composer and producer of this track which means he definitely had a huge hand and a lot of the instrumentation and performance.
He likely is a multi-instrumentalist that does it all.
Either way, this was very well woven and just unfolds beautifully. It gives such a particular aesthetic and that aesthetic is completely nailed.
An awesome track that you should really listen to with headphones on because it's one of the best ways to do it, dive into "Mad Man" by Marlon Bianco.
See what it does for you. See what kind of imagery it pulls up in your brain because it certainly will do that.
Soak this one in. It's worth it.
