An Anthemic Rock Single from Mat D
A new release from Mat D just dropped, and it definitely gives off a thriving classic rock style vibe with these sort of rustic, slightly rough vocals that come through with a huge robustness and grab your attention right off the bat, along with this guitar progression that pulls you right in.
This is the track that definitely has a bit of edginess to it, and a lot of that comes from the performances. I'm not just talking about vocals. The vocals are definitely right in your face, and they come through and to make, especially with the lyrics, but I'm also talking about the way the guitars and drums are performed.
Everything has a bit of a heavy hand, and I definitely dig that because the song calls for that kind of powerful approach.
"Kingdom Come" is a track that feels like it's about not slowing down.
This is a song that revitalizes you when you listen to it because it's about the ability to keep on going with the will to rarely stop.
Now, this is a sentiment and feeling a lot of us have sometimes. For a lot of us, it's a little bit of a rarity, but when it happens, we feel a bit invigorated. We want to get out there and just rule the world, and this song captures the essence of that energy incredibly well.
There are layers of guitars that hit amazingly throughout this track. The two main guitar tracks are doing different licks, and I like this because it reaches back to certain elements of that classic rock I mentioned earlier.
One is usually paying more of the progression while the other one is playing a bit of a hook over that. Still progressive, but a hook all the same.
This adds a bit of depth and a cool set of layers to the song that makes it just feel really full-bodied.
The choruses of this track are just ultra catchy. He comes in with vocal harmonies that feel bright right as the progression changes into that chorus section, and it all feels sonically massive.
None of this is really overdone or over the top. It's very well balanced, but again, that energy level beckons live performances. It's pretty hard not to get invigorated when those choruses come in.
I feel like this is a big part of what the song was meant for. It's meant for Mat to let you know where he's at, but it's also for the listener too. When I listen to it, I get that jolt of energy in my body. I feel like I can get up and go out there and never stop.
I love songs like this because it gives you the push you need. It feels good to listen to songs with this level of vigor and excitement.
The vocal approach is, again, a little bit raspy vocally. But that's part of why he has such a boisterous tone.
That big tone matches the lively guitar work and drumming perfectly.
The whole thing is put together with a punch. And it's a punch you need. It's a positive punch.
I think we all need more songs like this. We need to have something that gets us set up for the day. When you listen to the song first thing in the morning, it does feel like nothing can get in your way. It makes you feel almost unstoppable.
The drumming is awesome. The drummer doesn't just sit in the pocket, but instead he gives a great liveliness and edginess that the rest of the instruments sort of push off of.
The track also has a bit of a lead guitar solo that is, once again, amazingly well balanced with the rest of the song. It's not a shredder; It's a soulful guitar solo that fits in with that anthemic tone the entire track embodies.
This was definitely a song that had a bit of fire in its belly.
With all of that, it's also super catchy, and a lot of those hooks, especially the main chorus, have a particular way of bouncing around in your brain long after the song has ended.
There are plenty of influences at play on this track, but I hear a little bit of Springsteen in there.
The tones and vocal approaches are kind of along those lines, and I did that because it showcases an artist who brings in all the different influences when creating a song but also knows how to perform with heart so that you can feel it as well.
This is definitely not a song you want to miss, especially if you love great rock music that has a thriving energy and is almost inspirational.
Come check this one out now so you can hear exactly what I mean.
