Matthew Squires & Sunk Coast Deliver A Warm and Pop Coated New Single
A fresh release from Matthew Squires and Sunk Coast delivers this super inviting sound that combines acoustic pop with classic rock, psychedelic undertones, and this sense of spirit that gives the song this beautiful vibe. Listening to the song just makes you feel like everything's going to be okay, no matter what.
It's got this grounded feeling to it. A lot of this comes from the lyrics; they get a little bit in-depth, and from what I've heard, Matthew was a bit embedded in the work of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Obviously, that had a lot to do with the lyrical content of the track, but either way, it just feels freeing, and it brings with it this kind of light that is just welcoming to me.
This does indeed have full elements to it, and also beckons certain kinds of classic rock; it feels indie-pop in nature, and a lot of that comes from the combination of acoustic guitars that roll in with these layers, so they feel kind of thick but still stripped down, in a sense. It also comes from a lot of these hooks. The hook of the song is this great vocal melody, and it brings a lot of color.
During the acoustic guitars, you also have an underlying electric guitar that's playing single notes and delivering more melody and depth to the track. This all comes together and lets everything have an atmosphere of its own.
I love the way the vocals were performed. Very indie style, very personal feeling, and it feels like that indie songwriter style that really lets you pay attention to those lyrics well.
You can hear elements of existentialism in the lyrics, but the way things are described and articulated is amazing. It really paints such a unique picture, and because of the underlying guitar, some of the lyrics, and that hook, the whole thing does absolutely boast a psychedelic underbelly that shines through, and I think because of that, it feels like a track that is both indie-pop oriented and vintage-toned, in a sense.
I love this combination because it works so well here.
That hook definitely sticks with you. It bounces around in your brain for hours or even days after the song is over, and you have to just go back to it. You need to play the song again because it has that addictive hook.
It's not overdone; it's super well-balanced, with wonderfully lush textures coming in from the guitar work and the layered vocals, and it all just feels good. It's got a wonderful way of wrapping its arms around you.
As I mentioned earlier, it's very welcoming or inviting. It has a floaty sensation, mostly coming from those underlying guitars playing psychedelic, twangy melodies, but it works amazingly for the track.
I would definitely check this one out as soon as I can, and I think that between the two projects, they have found an amazing balance so that they were able to create something special.
This song is almost for everybody.
Definitely check this one out with headphones so you can take in all of the different tones and layers, but also the lyrics.
It's great because it'll have you thinking. It'll make you want to go back and start the song over just so you can take in all of those lyrics again.
It's all very cool, so go check it out right now.
