An Endlessly Fun Album From Mellow Waves
The latest album release from Mellow Waves comes through with a great combination of classic rock influences that are brought into a more current playing field but with this amazing sense of character to give everything life and presence.
The Night Out album is packed with great and memorable riffs that walk the line between being incredibly poppy and catchy and hitting a little bit of a harder rock feel.
This is done with a great intricacy and these guys just have a natural knack for writing singles that come up and tap you on the shoulder. When you turn around there it is and you can't look away anymore.
The songs get your attention and they do it in a way that when the song has ended, you ready for more because it's giving you this great energy.
A lot of the songs on this record are super catchy and these guys are amazing at writing hooks that stick in your head for hours after the record is ended and the only way to satiate that is to play it again so in my opinion, that's very smart songwriting.
What's more is the actual energy on the recording itself because at times it feels like the players are feeding off of each other's energies as the song is being laid out almost like it's recorded live on the floor.
I could totally be wrong about the way it was recorded and probably am, but the point is that energy is really addictive and it gives the record a certain alive and breathing undertone to it and has a way of making the songs sort of special.
You do find yourself whining to see these guys live when the record's over and that's because with the way things sound on the record, even if you get half that energy live it's going to be killer.
The band has a great way of bringing in these little elements of humor to some of the songs as well which shows that character and makes everything all that much more likable.
These songs are fun and are meant to be taken not so seriously.
These are songs you get up and dance around to or sing along with the chorus when you know it. They are having a good time.
I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that these guys have a love for their craft and you can tell that they themselves are having a great time while making the songs.
Those kinds of things come through when they're done right.
You don't always get records that have a great balance of this classic pop rock style that incorporates all the different players' influences to create something that's familiar and welcoming, but still refreshing.
After I listened to this record the first thing I thought was "you know I really missed this kind of stuff".
So it's great to have a band and an album that makes you think things like that.
It means they're doing it right and the songs are coming through the way they should.
This album felt great to listen to from top to bottom and would go over great in almost any situation.
I think guitar tones are on point, the attitudes are perfect, and they have a subtle way of becoming infectious. In a good way of course.
If you're a fan of classic rock then you're absolutely going to love this.
If you're a fan of pop-rock you'll most likely really love it as well. I'm a fan of both and I'm adding more than a few tracks to my playlist from this one.
Dive into this record when you can and turn it up.
