A New Release from Michael Landgarten
A vibrant new release from Michael Landgarten refreshing approach to a love song. The track musically covers this sort of indie rock and almost blues undertone, and the aesthetic feels like you're watching a live performance.
The guitars are crisp, and the vocals have this perfect little rasp to them, but so much energy and liveliness that you can't turn away from it.
One of the best aspects about "But I Do" is how straightforward and in your face the lyrics are. The sentiment is crisp and clear, especially during those verses where he just comes right out and lays it all on the line.
This is certainly about a particular someone, and I love this approach to a song of this nature. We've all heard plenty of love songs before, of course, in several forms, genres, and styles, but this one hits a little different.
It's got this sort of rawness to it lyrically.
The song also has this breathing style to it. During the verses, things are settle down. The guitars aren't full-fledged, the drumming comes a little bit, and it focuses just on the lyrics.
When the course has come around, it explodes, and there are all kinds of cool little surprises that happen as well in terms of adding an extra flair to the song, boosting its energy, and throwing out some sort of intense rock moments.
It all comes together very well and it's got hard to it.
This is a song that is bursting with character. It's just something that you get attached to because it's got so much relatability to it, and that, in part, is due to a combination of that energy and the rawness of the lyrics.
I think this is a bit gutsy. Just the way it's laid out. You don't expect to hear lyrics that are so in your face like that. They're like inner thoughts that people usually aren't going to spew out in such a manner.
I loved it because of that. I think more people should have songs that really speak truth in such a straightforward format, the way this one does.
I think that's what makes it so connective.
You listen to the song and you just nod your head, especially if you have that special person that you have certain thoughts about.
The live performance aspect comes from the actual aesthetic and tonality of the track and how it is performed on the guitar and vocally.
During certain choruses, there are vocal harmonies, and the guitars come in with open chords, and the entire song brings out a more full-bodied and heavy-handed approach.
It's during the verses that it feels more personal and almost one-on-one.
This is one of those songs that has a particular way of putting you right there in the moment, and I really dig that.
This was colorful but had its edgy moments; it's a rock song, but doesn't go over the top, it isn't super heavy or anything. This is an indie rock single that blends elements of classic rock and hints of Soulful Blues approaches laced throughout it.
All of this is what makes it kind of special.
I can't be sure, but it seems like maybe this single will be part of an upcoming record, and I hope that's the case because I certainly am looking forward to hearing more of those raw lyrical approaches that get so personal and yet have no walls built around them.
He's also very inventive with the rock songwriting aspect of things. As I mentioned before, there are some surprises during this track that were super fun and added a lot of flair to the soundscape and songwriting of it all.
So, hopefully, this is not the last we hear of Michael Landgarten this year.
Either way, this track will certainly tide me over, and you should go check this out right now, especially if you really love spirited, high-energy, and personal rock music.
