Mick Rockford Releases A Very Honest Rock Single

12329-img4279-17766236097028.jpg

An amazing new rock single from Mick Rockford delves into certain elements of addiction and how you feel when intoxicated. The song gets into both sides of the spectrum, displaying certain kinds of regret, which comes with the territory, but it also focuses on the feeling you have when you're a bit more carefree. How the addiction calls you back for just a little bit more every time.

I found this to be a really intense topic because I feel like a lot of us have dealt with this. Addiction is an incredibly common struggle that many people have, and I found it brave for Mick to record a song that goes so articulately deep into those kinds of struggles with a bit of an unafraid approach.

Certain lines in the song definitely lean more towards alcoholism as that addiction, but even so, this song works for a gamut of addictions, simply because it deals with certain repercussions.

Those of us who have dealt with it or are dealing with it even today don't know exactly how you articulate these kinds of things into words, let alone words and music. When we hear a song like this, whether or not we are the ones who are directly dealing with it, or it's a friend or family member, we connect with it. We feel less alone and more human. I think that's really important because that's part of the message the song is sending.

The track is called "Killing Me Today", and it certainly does have a particular way of capturing the sentiment very well.

The instrumentation for this track captures some of the mood to go along with that.

The song has certain levels of intensity and definitely has this great alternative or even cinematic rock backbone to it.

The guitar work is outstanding. There are a lot of instrumental hooks coming through along with these brilliant layers. There is almost always more than one guitar going on. Throughout a lot of the song, there's a guitar with distortion on it that adds a bit of that edgy heavy rock feel, and there's also a cleaner guitar that's playing arpeggiated chords.

Because of that, you have these extra layers and that more deepening sense of melody. The progressions are great, and the single has a bit of a unique time signature coming from the drops.

You can definitely hear certain classic indie rock influences shining through in both the instruments and the vocals, but this has a vibe that's its own.

It's got an impact. It's a powerful song.

I love that there is an amazing guitar solo in there as well. The lead guitar work on this is very melodically based, but still has some great technicality to it. It's got soul. The whole song is coming from some authentic space. He's pulling from real life in some form, so that genuine undertone comes through a lot when you listen to the track.

Mick seems to be the kind of artist who isn't afraid to really go there lyrically. He comes up with some great melodies vocally throughout the song, but you are still really hooked on the lyrics because it's got so much powerful meaning behind it. Again, this is quite relatable to a lot of people.

The whole thing has a pretty polished production to it, but the important thing is that the message comes through loud and clear. The story is there, those expressive thoughts come right on out, and they hit hard.

As far as we know, this single should be part of an upcoming record set to be released later this year. I'm certainly looking forward to it, especially if it's got this level of honesty and rock edge straw.

Definitely check this track out as soon as you can and see how it affects you.

Thanks so much for taking the time! Let's jump right into "Killing me Today"! This single came across as very personal!Where did this song come from and what was it about?

this song is about addiction, specifically alcohol, it’s one of them taboo
Subjects that I wanted to address and start a conversation about. There are very few families that are not touched in some way so I wrote this song for the suffering addict and their families.

My son Darragh Rochford done an amazing job portraying an alcoholic drummer in the video. My other son Jamie also plays the drums.

I am hearing a few different styles on this release. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

So I wanted to do a different style so I created a tangoesque type guitar timing and put in some powerful drumming. I love all music but Pop
Rock power ballads or grunge is my real
Passion. There is a little bit of both in there.

Are you performing live right now?

We are in talks with some decent festivals at the moment in Ireland and the UK so as soon as we agree we will jump into the studios rehearse a 5 song set.

How did this all start for you as an artist?

Back in the 90s I was a drummer in a band called the Rain Prophets, we almost got signed but got the chance to play some big venues which was a great experience. Went on the have a family and started writing again last year, I was truely amazed at the reaction very quick
Charting and radio play and good numbers on Spotify and you tube. I put my last song Killing me today on Tik Tik and we have just hit 2.2million views which is amazing and among the top 1% of all Tik tok creators.

Did you work with a producer on this release, or was this all you?

we did this on a very tight budget and was all delf produced with an engineer. It gave me the freedom to put my own stamp on things so feel lucky to be able to do this.

What's next for you? Working on more new releases?

We have just released I’ve got something to say and we have hit 500,000 Tik tok views. The track I’m working on now has the issue of bullying in its main theme so looking forward to finishing this very nice melody and deep meaning too.

What kind of advice would you give to other up and coming bands or artists trying to get heard?

Good hook, polished production, and main thing get used to getting rejected  it’s part of the business .

What would you say people can expect to hear on this track?

They will hear personal stories of struggle and hope.

Before we go, what would you want to express to fans of the music?

Thanks for supporting and keep listening plenty more to say.
