An Honest Release from Mol Sullivan
A new video release from Mol Sullivan delivers a very intense and sort of unique breed of honesty that in a way is so incredibly relatable that you can feel it in your bones and when you listen to the song and pay attention to the lyrics, it's very descriptive especially in terms of the emotional undertone which stays sort of subtle in its delivery but has an intensity in its story.
"Cautiously" touches on the topic of a certain kind of love lost and the kind of struggle that you go through when you are dealing with a little bit of heartbreak after a relationship or, at least that's how I took it but the way that she paints the picture with her words is gorgeous because she has such a unique way of articulating how she feels.
This is the part that is so relatable and because of this you really do understand that this all is coming from a very real place and the song is completely authentic so as you listen through to the track and you watch the video you can kind of see that she's giving a piece of herself and that maybe writing and releasing the song was cathartic for her.
The music is beautiful and even has this kind of cinematic undertone or backbone to it and this gives it a little bit of a vastness but it also has these colorful sort of keys and indie pop elements that go along with an almost twangy sort of guitar that gives the effect of watching an old western film.
The combination of textures musically is very beautiful and the song ends up becoming lush but this is also the kind of song that you get engulfed in and then eventually washed away with.
The way her vocals are performed are so kind of sullen and that's because of the heartbreak aspect and the way that she feels like something is now missing that was once there.
You can actually pick up on all of the stuff in the way that she sings because she's just being so honest and she's letting so much out.
It's this personality or character that you end up really latching on to.
I thoroughly enjoy songs like this simply because when the artist actually gives pieces of themselves on a song you can feel it and you don't get that super often so when you do have it it's very refreshing and in a strange way it can even be rejuvenating.
Part of the beauty of songs like this is that you can take it into your own life at certain points and so when you listen to it you think of your person or you have memories of your own pop into your head at random.
A lot of this is because of how descriptive she is with her inner thoughts and letting them out.
The video also displays that sort of sun tonality and throughout it she's a bit straight-faced because she feels that blankness and that element really comes through in the video so I really think that it complements the song very well plus there's cool little edits throughout it that make it a little colorful and creative as well.
The whole thing came together beautifully and I have to salute Mol for her efforts in being so upfront and letting so much out in her music so that other people can not only relate to it but maybe not feel alone in their own personal struggles.
This is also something that's kind of important with songs like this. You may not realize it but it could be affecting someone positively just because they may feel like they are indeed less alone in their struggle or their heartbreak.
We've all felt that blankness for moments in time or longer and for someone to display that is brave but also necessary.
This is an amazing track and I can't wait to hear what comes next from Mol Sullivan.
Take a listen to this track and watch the video and see how it affects you.
