An Honest Single from Molli
A vast and beautiful new track from Molli delivers quite a set of layers of dreaminess and this beautiful and sort of natural flow that delivers loads of honesty, and the way she articulates her lyrics is a big part of why this works so well, because she's so honest about everything and in a way, straightforward, but also a bit metaphoric as well.
This single gives a perfect example of an artist who gives pieces of themselves in their music. She has something inside that needs to be let out, and she does that in the best way she knows how, which is through her music. This is imperative because that's where true art comes from.
The song is not something that is cut and dry. Again, there are layers to it, not just musically but lyrically as well.
The track is called "I Am Not Broken", and the title says a lot about it. She is not broken, she doesn't need to be fixed, but there are people around her who expect her to be different, or at least that's how she feels.
Now, this is a sentiment that plenty of us have been through at some point in our lives. I myself have been through it, and I feel like someone young constantly feels that they are being judged, and although that may not always be true, at times it is, and it affects them.
This is a lot of inner thought that comes spilling out for all the soaking, and I found that beautiful.
There's something about a track that has this level of authenticity and truth to it because it's on afraid and that's what we need more in music these days. We need unafraid honesty.
This song has zero walls built around it, and that is something that has an impact. It impacted me because of how open she was about how she feels on the inside. She is who she is, she doesn't feel like she wants to change, and she doesn't need to be fixed.
As I mentioned earlier, the title says it all. And she's absolutely right. She is not broken, she's herself, and this is important for us to remember when we're talking to somebody, or in a relationship with someone.
A relationship could mean simply friends, relatives, or a significant other.
This is a very subtle track in terms of its musical attributes. It is sensibly beautiful. It's not overdone, it's not super solid, but that sadness is there just because if it didn't come out like that, then it might come out angry.
I don't think she's angry. I feel like the song is just coming through emotionally in general.
There is a clean guitar throughout the track, and this sort of synth pad sound that floats through the ether of the song, giving it way more depth than atmosphere.
It does tend to get a little bit more intense as it unfolds, and I like that because it's coming to a sort of climactic point towards the end where she's basically just saying, 'Look, I've had enough.'
Songs like this connect with me simply because they are so blunt and so honest. Again, unafraid and built with fewer boundaries than the norm, songs like this really hit in a particular way.
You know this came from deep inside, and it was probably cathartic for her to write and release.
I definitely found myself thinking about the song long after it was over, and while you listen to it, you can sort of float around with it. It's very dreamy, floaty, and truthful. It invites you to come float alongside it.
In my opinion, we need more songs like this in the world. Songs that are just honest and reflective upon one's vulnerability. It's okay to have vulnerable songs; that's what it's all about.
This was brave and genuine.
Listen to it with headphones on so you can really sort of soak everything in properly because again, there is depth to this track musically.
Take a deep dive into this one and see how it affects you, because I'm sure it will.
