A Wonderfully Built EP From Monta

A new EP release from Monta hits a nostalgic and welcoming form of retro pop that's aesthetically perfected and feels like you've been listening to some of these songs on the radio for decades now.
Synth work is spot on and creates such a wondrous atmosphere that you become hooked in an almost dream-esque soundscape and it feels good to float around in there with them.
The Crystal Momentum EP consists of four songs but feels much bigger than that for some reason.
You get such a lush array of textures that melt into each other and bounce off of each other that it kind of takes you to a different place altogether.
This is part of the fun of the EP itself aside from its authentically delivered vintage sort of post-punk edged vibe.
The reason I say postpunk of course is because not only did the synths and keys fill that space but there's also these wonderful kind of twangy guitars that also float around with the rest of everything that does have that mid 90s Post Punk tonality to it.
There's also a bunch of warmth coming from this record and you can tell there was as much heart as there was attention to detail in the creation of this record.
There's loads of hooks and you find some of these bouncing around in your head days after you listen to it and the only way to satiate that is to play it again which in my opinion is pretty smart songwriting honestly.
These are very catchy and radio friendly but also still keep this stable feel for the band that walks a tightrope between genres and lets you get washed away with the sound that they give.
This release has a way of wrapping itself around you and keeping you right where it wants to.
If you grew up in a certain time. You welcome this neo new wave approach and this is because when it's done right, like it is here, you get the right feeling when you listen to it.
They do have a bit of an experimental side and some deep grooves along the way which is also wonderful and you can tell that they love what they do and how they do it.
This aspect bleeds through into the music itself and it actually makes you want to see them play live because if they have that energy in a live performance then it's going to be great.
Even gaining the energy that they do on the recording is most likely not the easiest thing to accomplish so it's pretty impressive from the get-go.
So if you want something colorful, floaty, vibrant, fun and insanely danceable that gives you that nostalgic feel when you listen to it then Monta is certainly for you.
