Mr. Billy Fitzgerald Releases One Of The Best Break Up Songs We've Heard
In a single release from Mr Billy Fitzgerald, the artist blends such robust, flavorful sounds that range from funk, pop, rock, and various approaches to Indie music in general, but brings this lively and sort of electric energy to the table that makes things authentic in a different sense.
"You Had Your Chance" opens up with an acoustic guitar and some pretty intense vocal hooks that are all performed in this high-pitched head voice, but also deliver a massive and impactful melody that just sticks with you, comes through with that colorful feel, and it's so unique that you stick around.
Suddenly, live drums kick in, the acoustic is still there and the main instrument, but the song becomes more lush and full-bodied with pianos, and more instrumentation that really give it an impactful approach, and throughout all of this, you still get this vivaciousness coming through.
The energy levels of this song are outstanding, and I think that's one of the more important aspects of the entire thing.
Now, the track also delivers massive character and persona, which is another aspect of why it stays with you. The idea of putting forth so much character in a track and doing it with this much vibrancy can be sort of intense, but in a good way.
The song comes through with such a theatrical backbone, and while the song unfolds, you can start to get a grasp of Billy's vocal range, which is absolutely astounding.
Throughout this track, he's able to utilize his voice in a bunch of different ways. Aside from the upfront and main vocal, which is again, very lively and excitable, in your face, and sort of belting out, he's got a lot of great harmonies that float in and out of the background at different parts of the song as well.
There are great little piano sort of breakdowns that really bring that funk and Jive, again this flavorful soundscape that you can't really help but move your body to.
One of the things I really dig about this is that it's a track about someone who had their chance, as the title suggests. It's sort of a breakup song in a sense, and Billy's the one doing the breaking up, it seems.
Throughout this sort of personal aspect and lyrical approach, you get an undeniably danceable song, to the point where you again can't help but start moving to this track.
There are all kinds of great precaution trickery and fun going on, and before it breaks into that final, huge chorus, it goes back to how it was introduced with just the acoustic guitar, which, by the way, feels almost like Spanish classical, and vocals.
This is all done with a bit of reverb effect on them, so they're distanced, and then, boom, the chorus comes back in full swing with layers of vocals and all the instrumentation, giving you this gigantic sound.
This was quite an intense track, in my opinion, and I loved it simply because it was able to give me this big and character-driven set of theatrics, hooks, and tonalities that really left a mark.
Now, this is a track that's part of a record released a little earlier this year called A Grand Romantic Gesture, which does little in the way of holding back from the artists' uncanny ability to write eclectically and powerfully, but still have a lot of fun doing it.
If you're digging on this track, moving your body, soaking in all the layers and flavors of it, and you really love it, you should absolutely listen to the rest of this record because it's well worth your time to say the absolute least.
Start with this track, but again, there's a whole album worth of amazing songs with this full LP, so delve into that when you can. A lot of it is definitely personal, coming from genuine places, and there's a lot to soak in, but again, it's worth taking the time to absolutely check out.
