A Danceable, Funk Riddled Rock Single From Mr Pink

Mr Pink are back with a vivacious new single that manages to put forth an amazing energy, blending elements of indie and heavy rock with a wonderfully funk-oriented undertone, making way for a track that is exceptionally danceable, endlessly fun, and packed to the brim with character.

The drumbeat throughout this track is what gives it its disco-like vibe, while the guitars bring on some of those funky vibes, giving you a great rhythmic overtone and approach, with classic progressions while that kick drum stomps away.

The whole situation is unbelievably infectious, and you can hear how the band really came together to put something out there that feels vibrant, keeping the edgy undertone close, so that the track does showcase that rock backbone properly.

The vocals are really robust and fun. I think it's the vocals that give the song the most character out of everything. They are sort of animated and theatrical, in a sense. I dig how the singer is able to keep up with the band's energy so well. Maybe even pushing it further.

"Cry Wolf" is a song that doesn't take itself too seriously, which is sort of refreshing. It wants you to jump on the dance floor, push the couch back in the living room, shake your butt in your seat while you're driving, and sing along with those choruses.

It certainly encompasses all of that.

One of my favorite aspects about this entire track is the fact that there's a section during the breakdown and bridge part where it gets really kind of heavy. The time signature during this section is awesome.

Everything feels closed-fisted and a bit more aggressive, and the entire thing packs a heavy-handed punch.

It still leans into that sort of funk rock or dance rock approach super intently, but that alternative underbelly shows its face a little bit more during that section.

What's really amazing is how they let the song sort of flow right into it. You don't really expect it to happen, but it fits perfectly.

It's kind of like the little surprise in the track.

The vocalist is really all over it during this entire track. Not only does he bring the right kind of energy, but he howls and wails, cries out, and has loads of enjoyment even while tracking the song. It kind of makes you want to go see them live because of how he's able to capture that kind of energy on record so well.

The whole thing is a little blissful, and again, it'll be very hard for you not to dance or move your body to this track.

It was meant for you to have a good time and accomplishes it.

Now, the single has an accompanying music video that actually does a really good job of showcasing the kind of energy and sentiment that the song portrays.

It was definitely storyboarded and shot with attention to detail, and the energy levels of the characters in the music video match up with the rises of intensity during the track itself.

You can tell a lot of time, heart, and thought went into creating this music video, and the coolest thing about it is that it was made by film students from BelfastMet.

I feel like watching the music video for the first time you listen to the track is an absolute must. It does indeed display not just the energy, but some of the want to escape the day-to-day, with hints of slowly going insane in the process.

This is certainly not one that you want to miss, and I feel like it speaks volumes for the band and showcases how they're able to branch off into different directions, holding the rock firmly close, but unafraid to experiment and come up with new elements that break the norms just enough to notice.

Of course, we've taken the liberty of embedding the music video below for your viewing pleasure, so stop reading and start watching.

I'm sure you're going to dig "Cry Wolf".
