Mucksavage Drops A Wild Pop-Rock Single
The brand new release from Mucksavage has arrived, and the track absolutely delivers a ton of melodic onslaught with amazing guitar hooks that border on pop-punk but bring more of a bright rock approach, along with amazing tonality that all feels sort of warm while still having this vivacious sound attached to it.
A lot of that vibrancy and vivaciousness comes from the energy and the performance itself, along with this amazing progressiveness in the changes that, even in the beginning of the song, sort of surprise you.
This is the track that has a way of breathing. During the verses, things feel a little bit more stripped down. There are fewer guitars, a lot of the focus is on the bass guitar, and that tone is also outstanding. The bass guitar tone certainly brings on more of that pop-punk feel and approach to the song.
But during the choruses, things kicked in full-fledged, and these guys did something really smart in terms of their arranging.
They come in with the chorus guitar hook at the start of the song. So right off the bat, you're getting this awesome riff that is melodically driving and has a memorable hook to it, along with the surprising little change in progression there, and that's part of the chorus of the song too.
During the verses, you also hear a lot more of the effects that are used throughout the song. There are elements of reverb effect that are layered on some of the vocals, even the drums, and more.
Those elements and aspects come through a little more heavy-handed during the verses where you could hear them clearly. When it comes to the sections where there are more guitars and things work out, like the choruses, you don't hear much of that reverb, but instead, things are right there in your face.
So, you do have a little bit of a spacious undertone as the song plays through, giving it some more depth.
That reverb effect is on the vocals as well, which you can also hear clearly during the verses. The vocal performance overall has character behind it. There's a sort of swagger that's light-hearted, and this is more evident also during the verses, because when the chorus comes up, things get anthemic.
Those big, boisterous, robust, and anthemic choruses absolutely feel pop-punk. You can hear that they're influenced by a lot of different kinds of rock music, but pop-punk is the most evident of the bunch, in my opinion.
The cool thing about how they put this together is that it's got layers, and they're able to create a song that sounds really big as opposed to your normal pop rock or pop punk that's a little bit more straightforward.
These guys play around with effects and songwriting approaches, along with guitar riffs and tones, to build something that feels out of the ordinary and slightly experimental while still having a massive pop sensibility and hit as hard and edgy as they wanted to.
It's a very colorful track, and it speaks volumes for the band themselves simply because you have this element of personality that stays strong throughout the track while it's still giving you these big choruses and pop overtones.
It's a pretty brilliant combination of styles, and I think this is a track that showcases how they can create something that feels slightly rambunctious and a little bit wild, but still have it fit together like puzzle pieces and give you something whole.
Those choruses are addicting, they stay in your head after the song is over, but you also hold on to those experimental aspects and how the verses bring out different attributes of the song that you don't really notice during the choruses.
The track also features a really cool breakdown section that's just drums and bass guitar until some of the vocals come back in, and when those vocals come back in, you have the deeper tone, kind of like classic Blink-182 Style.
While this is happening, the time signature for the drums is really cool.
This also shows you how they think outside the box and can be experimental in terms of the actual songwriting as opposed to just the production side of things as well.
This is a song that's a little unafraid to go different directions at free will, and that's something that I adored simply because I think more music should be doing that.
It's less boxed in than your average pop-rock or pop-punk style song, and I think that is a really important aspect as to why the song sticks with me.
So, all in all, this was catchy, fun, danceable, great riffs and guitar tone, unique time signatures, great arranging and songwriting, but also throws experimental curveballs at you to make things more interesting, and I hope these guys are going to give us more soon.
For now, this will keep me at bay.
The music video for the track is awesome and fits the aesthetic perfectly because again, it leans towards the pop-punk style musically, and the video certainly follows suit.
We've embedded the video below so you can check it out, but make sure you turn it to a good volume when you listen.
This video is also as colorful as the song is so I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.
