A Progressive New Release from Myriad Things

A brand new release from Myriad Things comes through with a very alluring soundscape with delayed guitars that lap over each other, creating these waves that feel like you're floating face up in an ocean, and it's done with such a unique approach, but this sort of looseness that lets everything flow freely and just feel completely natural. And that;s just the first song.

The Sanctuary EP has such a cool set of songs that all lend something different, showcasig the band's influences well.

The title track, "Sanctuary", has an amazing riff and even guitar tone, and it all pulls you into this gorgeous atmosphere, which is something that sort of wraps itself around you and keeps you right where it wants to.

I love the feel and aesthetic that this creates because it's a little different, and the vocals that start coming into play have a different texture, and it overlaying melody, giving off a personal sort of lyrics, but it's definitely experimental in its tonality and approach as a whole.

But the whole thing has an outside-the-box and different style to it that still incorporates progressive and indie rock, but adds that sort of dreaminess because of how it's put together.

Before you know it, drums start coming into play, and this adds a different vibe to the whole thing. You start to pick up more on the actual rhythm of the song itself, and the drumming is not just for drive or rhythm, it's to add a different sort of liveliness to the entire thing.

This track feels alive and breathing in a sense. It doesn't really follow suit with normal, standard sort of arrangements or progressions. It does its own thing, and that's what I love about this. That's part of its allure and intrigue.

Synth pads start swelling in the background, adding a bigger Sonic soundscape, and more guitars bleed into the mix until finally everything is there. At this point, the drum beat is in full swing, and it's wild. It's got this jazz sort of undertone, but still this experimental, indie rock-based backbone as well.

It's crazy because in the beginning, there are no drums at all, but by the time you get halfway through the song, the drums are the most imperative aspect of the whole thing.

Filled with ghost notes and brilliant timing, the percussion is just beautifully enticing and has a unique way of connecting with the song when it all comes in full swing.

The track goes through some transitions and changes but still keeps to that sort of expansive and dreamy tone with those delayed, overlapping guitars, with a beautiful low end from the bass guitar.

Things get intense at that climactic ending, and finally, the song sort of exhales back down to a calm point, and the last thing you hear is that delayed sort of lead guitar, and this again leads you back to the ocean once more.

I think that's because the lead guitar at the end sounds almost like a whale call. I love this because there's such a natural feel to this entire sound. The tone of everything is so beautifully set, and the song ends up coming through with this massive lushness and full-bodied feel.

This was definitely a track I'll remember. It had that cinematic ambience and was brilliantly written simply because its rhythms are based on those guitar delays and how it all came together.

"There is Nothing There" gives off more of a 90's rock vibe that hits harder with edgier riffs and tones all round. It's more uswing and still experimental inhow it feels and is constructed, but this one has a great rock appeal to it.

Still some killer guitar work thinking outside that box and some incredible lead sections with drums that just smash and groove.

The closing track is called "Colours of the World" which is a gorgeous one with the monst ambeitn space and an almost spiritual undertone, served up by swimming strings and synth pads, or at least, that is what it sounds like to me.

It is a wall of sound created by flowing tonality. They are very good at that.

This track brings with it this etheral sense and can be quite entrancing. I loved this approach as well as it was a beauiful close to this deepening rock soiree of a record.

For only 3 tracks, these guys certainly showed a lot of songwriting that surprised me with each new song.

Definitely check this one out, especially if you're into that progressive and experimental, indie rock approach that feels sort of intelligent in a sense, but also a little fantastical at the same time.

An eclectic and diverse rock EP that had plenty of plesant and engulfing soundscapes to enjoy, along with some driving rock feels, check out the Sanctuary EP.
