An Endlessly Fun Christmas Single From Ralph Champagne Revue

11655-mkaeg-17674832006587.jpg

A whimsical but very jolly and unique Christmas release from Ralph Champagne Revue brings the holiday to a bit of a different level by delivering full-on swing and big band style robustness, along with a very humorous and edgy approach that comes together seamlessly and gives something that's pretty addictive and packed with character.

"Drinking Up Christmas" is endlessly fun and portrays a drunk Santa who has sort of given up and doesn't have much spirit left.

This works amazingly, the way they did it, simply because they gave the Santa character in the song his own personality. This personality is performed by Dexter Holland, most commonly known from the band The Offspring.

Dexter gives Santa a little extra life, and those parts are very hooky, along with that gigantic chorus, riddled with personality, swagger, and loads of big band instrumentation.

This was unique in many ways and definitely comes with a very infectious energy that still jingles all the way on its own path.

There are loads of musical hooks from big horn sections and more, and those really add depth, thickness, and liveliness to the song. This is a colorful, bright, and danceable single that really comes through with a boisterous soundscape.

There's a lot to chew on throughout the course of this one, and I feel like the vocal performance is perfectly balancing that classic, almost crooner approach, with the whimsical and humorous sentiment of the song itself.

This was very well thought out, and along with it comes a brilliant music video that's animated.

You can see that the video is done mostly by stop-motion animation and some puppets, and this is absolutely, hands down, the best way to listen to the song at least for the very first time.

It all opens up with Santa sitting at a bar, drinking one too many.

He goes on to pull out his list of naughty and nice kids, along with a few other things, and proceeds to get into a fight with Frosty the Snowman.

There's so much that goes on throughout this video, and it's all super entertaining.

The animation is done in a fashion that makes it feel like that old-school original Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Santa TV show we all watched as kids.

I absolutely love that they did this on purpose and that it's meant for a certain age group.

I mean, the track is a little edgy, but that's half the point.

This is a Santa that's getting drunk on Christmas and sitting out to ruin Christmas morning for many children.

Of course, it's only good fun, but you can tell there was a lot that went into the song in the video.

This is one vivacious single, and it serves super well for the holidays, so jump on board and watch this video immediately because it's definitely not one you should be missing.

This is a single for that holiday playlist.
