An Emotionally Charged and Classic New Single from Rose Ora
A beautifully inspirational single from Rose Ora delivers what I would consider to be a crossover of classic, almost 1950s doo-wop style songwriting, and a fresh soul-pop approach that comes together with loads of heart, passion, and a robust approach that really feels authentic.
"He's Just A Dream" is like a reminder to remember that it's okay to fall in love, follow dreams that you have, let it all out there for people to pick up on.
There are elements of vulnerability but also bravery here simply because she's able to put herself out in the open with so few walls built around it. I love that aspect because it humanizes her, and when we listen to it it lets us remember that we are human as well.
It's okay to go for it when we feel like we should. It's okay to listen to our gut or our heart.
These are aspects of life that we sometimes forget about in the day-to-day. However, when certain kinds of opportunities arise, we feel a need to go for it; we should. Don't be afraid.
If there is rejection involved, you'll live to see another day and have more opportunities.
Now, this is how I interpreted the track. I always mention that people will interpret songs differently depending on who they are and the life that they've lived so far.
It is very important to remember that everything can be taken in depending on what their own stories are so far.
For me, the sentiment was loud and clear, and it was portrayed with such a beautifully honest performance that it just wrapped itself around me.
Now, this comes in with some beautifully orchestrated strings and electric guitars that sort of flow together, performing similar hooks and licks, giving the song a melody that you can remember right from the get-go.
Then it opens up into the verses where the guitars go clean, and you start getting that classic, vintage, 50s and 60s style songwriting approach.
During the verses, her vocals are subtle and a little bit more delicate because that's what it calls for. This song exhales down to a calmer sound, and so she follows suit.
This is perfect because this is also where you start paying attention to the lyrics.
When the core comes in, the vocals become bigger, louder, stronger, and more impactful.
One of the things that really pushes this song through the roof is the drum performance.
The drumming on this track is absolutely stellar and really gives it the drive that it needs, and also the dynamic balance for the arrangement of the song.
You can hear other instrumentation coming in and out of the background as the song unfolds, giving it a more lush and sort of full-bodied aesthetic and feel, but the whole thing really hits an emotional nerve.
This whole track is really sort of based on emotion and again, trusting your heart.
That whole aspect of it is displayed so well in the performance as well as the lyrics.
It's not just about having lyrics that connect, which they absolutely do. These lyrics are incredibly relatable. It's also about the performance of those lyrics. The song feels like it's live. It has a very particular way of putting you right there in the moment with it.
The beautiful part about it is that a lot of people will be able to connect with it. They will have their own thoughts, images, and even memories that pop into their head as they listen.
You can start hearing piano coming into play, and this really adds more of that power ballad kind of feel, and all of that is mixed and balanced incredibly well.
The piano is not being overpowered, the guitars are really well placed, and the vocals are sitting on top of everything perfectly. You have this sort of vivacious and intense performance for the whole second half of the track.
Again, some strings flow in and out of the song as they are laced in there so that you have a bit of dramatic push, which really gives the song a heavy-handed cinematic sort of backbone.
This is something else I really loved about it. There's a lot about this single that sort of stays with you long after the song has ended.
A song like this can be dubbed in many different genres. Some might call it pop or alternative pop, but I consider it to be more of a vintage soul-pop approach, and I really adored how this was placed and how it came across.
It never loses that heart or emotion the entire time, and that may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
