An Interview with Since Amnesia
A new single release from Since Amnesia delivers an immense and progressive rock soundscape that breaks off into other subgenres at free will and incorporates lush and colorful instrumentation to go along with the edgy rock tonality of everything but most of all, this track comes with character and that is really what you end up latching on to in the first place.
"Eye Opener" is such a detailed and intricately built track, especially with the changes that take place throughout its almost 5-minute course but everything is done with this incredible energy almost as if a lot of this was recorded live on the floor and everyone involved was just feeding off of each other the whole time delivering this sort of alive and breathing momentum.
The guitar tones are edgy but warm and the drumming is incredible which is a huge part of what lets the song pack as much punch as it does when it wants to but, there are also calming moments that can put you in a little bit of a trance at times and the whole thing feels vast and almost cinematic in a way.
The time signatures and arrangements are so good and it never gets old or boring, repetitive or underwhelming. It's all got such an amazingly well put together and built dynamic balance to it so you have these elements of progressive, alternative, and indie rock along with jazz undertones and blues sections as well that feature different instruments more prominently.
One of my favorite aspects about this track is that there's saxophone in it through the whole thing pretty much and this adds just a different layer of texture to the song but it also helps that color and drive sort of come together the way that it does so the whole thing has a forward moving flow that's completely natural.
The electric energy is what grabs me and if it wasn't recorded live on the floor, then you still want to go see this live in your face after listening to it simply because if the energy was that good on a recording then seeing it live must be awesome.
Now, there's something I haven't touched on which is a really important aspect of this release.
"Eye Opener" is somewhat of a visual single release and it comes with this amazing music video that flies you through beautiful landscapes, mountains, cliffs, fields, rocks, and deserts.
The whole thing works insanely well with the music and really just helps build on that expansive soundscape that the track delivers by itself.
It's just a different experience to watch the visual along with the song because it carries it and carries you along with it.
This is done by a group of people who have a pure love for their craft and when I say that I don't only mean their instruments. I mean building songs together that you can feel in your blood and that give you this infectious drive.
The song has heart and what's beautiful about this is the simple fact that you can soak it in how you want to.
Each listener will have different visuals or thoughts, memories or scenarios in their head as they listen to this track.
What the song does is build on intensities and calming moments like waves in the ocean so, you get to breathe along with the song and let your imagination take you where it will while this happens.
This was intense and edgy, heavy at times, but also graceful and soulful even.
A wonderous and massive track from Since Amnesia, check out "Eye Opener" and try and do it with headphones on so you can really soak in the atmosphere that it delivers.
In the meantime, we had a sitdown with the band to find out where this all came from and what may be next. Here's what happened.
TSWS: Let's talk a bit about "Eye Opener"! This was hard hitting yet progressive and vast at the same time! Where did this song come from?
We wrote all of the parts to the song over the course of a lot of jam sessions. We ended up putting them together into the song you hear today. Was a long evolution process writing this song. But most of it was tracked in a short period of time.
TSWS: The song has some amazing rock overtones. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
We all have our own biggest influences, but share a lot of the same as well. Nick Gomez(Bass)
Jeff hall(drums) and myself (guitar) our all big fans of classics like Jimi Hendrix , Pink Floyd and also the mars volta. We really all listen to so many styles of music so are influnces are very diverse.
TSWS: This super in depth music video was quite amazing! How did you find the right people to help create this?
Our good friend we grew up with and went to the same high school Lee Iovino is phenomenal at filming videos . He films using drones and we went out and got some great shots all over Arizona to go with the song to make this epic video.
TSWS: Was this meant to be a visual release to begin with?
Not exactly, we always imagined something very crazy and visual. And also to be able to match the songs intensity and part changes. There are a lot of parts in the song, and so there are many shots, visuals and landscapes to match that.
TSWS: Who's is your headphones right now?
Will try to keep this somewhat short because there’s a lot but yussef dayes, tycho, hermanos Gutierrez, glass beams, covet, Yvette young, audioslave, animals as leaders, and there has been a good amount of new indie rock hitting YouTube and Spotify lately. And the suggestions have been really solid and on point. It’s A great way to discover new and talented bands
TSWS: What kind of things inspire you to write songs?
Moments in life you cherish, fighting through struggles or enjoying the little things. Family and friendship means a lot to all of us. We have been making music since early high school. Just getting to be in the same room together with our instruments is a go to write something new every time. Sometimes just a part and or even almost whole songs. We also sometime write on our own and will bring ideas to each other.
TSWS: Are you a guitar player first and foremost?
I would have to say a songwriter before anything. I love writing all styles of music and lyrics for people to relate to. The power of music is real and how it affects and even heals is part of everyday life. I love hearing how a song helped someone or was an influence to them. But I did fall in love with guitar before I was a teenager. I use to ditch school to just go home and play guitar. So it was the door that opened up the world of music to me.
TSWS: What's coming next for you? Anything in the works even now?
There are at least two singles I plan on releasing this year. They have vocals and are feel good music. The feedback from those who have heard them so far is incredible. As for since amnesia we have so much still the world needs to hear. We have a whole weekend session we recorded in a cabin in the middle of nowhere that is phenomenal. Very raw and unique, it catches us in our best moment. Would love to release that sometime this year as well. I also have a few albums worth of beats that have colabs with singers and rappers that would be incredibly fun to release fully.
TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?
All of the great feedback, whether just a comment let or an email expressing love for the music makes it worth every moment. Thanks to those who understand I write and record so many styles of music. And to those who haven’t forgot and still are wanting more music thank you.
