An Interview With Strange Company
A new single release from Strange Company brings on a heavy-handed and classic '90s pop-rock and radio soundscape and the aesthetic is completely nailed along with this character that's displayed throughout the track which is one of the things you end up getting attached to very quickly.
"Lois Lane" is the type of track that for me, definitely felt a bit nostalgic but that's only because these guys really hone in on that classic sound and approach incredibly well and they do it with charm to boot.
The song comes through super lush with an amazing blend of color and vibrancy and at certain points, it feels like everyone in the band is even feeding off of each other's energies as if the track was actually recorded live on the floor.
Now of course, I could be completely wrong about the whole live on the floor thing, but either way, listening to this song certainly makes you want to go see these guys play this in a live setting because if the energy is captured on record this well, then seeing it live would be awesome.
You can tell that these guys are a group of people that have a pure love for their craft and when I say that I don't mean just playing their instruments or singing, I mean putting together songs and releasing them out into the world so that you can put them to the soundtrack of your own life.
This is that type of song for sure and when you hear it it's got this amazing chorus that makes you think of 90s rom-com films at times, and it's just such a great vibe to hear and I have missed this very particular kind of rock for a long time so it was very refreshing to hear it again, especially from a group that knows exactly how to grasp that soundscape so well and make it their own.
This chorus is huge and feels anthemic in its own way but the biggest thing about it is that it gets stuck in your head for hours after the song has ended and the only way to say she ate that is to play it again which in my opinion, is smart songwriting but I feel like these guys just do it naturally.
This is a single that reminds me of fans like Hootie and the Blowfish or Counting Crows again, the whole aesthetic of this is completely perfect.
This is a memorable track that puts a fresh spin on a classic genre and with its release we wanted to have a sit down with the band to find out where this truck actually came from, and what might be coming up next for them.
Here's what happened.
TSWS: Hey guys! Let's start off with Louis Lane! This track had a great rock tonality but with a southern feel to it! I Love the sound and energy of this track! Where did this song come from?
It started as just a song about a girl and just sort of evolved as I was writing it.
TSWS: The song has some different approaches in there. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
I like anything pop. I Like my rock and country. Love my pop.
TSWS: Are you guys planning any tour or live shows?
We have our first show to support "Lois Lane" on July 3rd in Nashville at the Basement East.
TSWS: Who's in all your headphones right now?
I'm in writing mode at present so I pretty much listen to country and jazz. I really like Cole Swindel.
TSWS: What kind of things inspire you to write songs and do you write them together?
We write some together but I work best alone. Chris and I wrote "Upside Down" which is on our record. It's a rockin' tune.
TSWS: What's coming next for you guys? Anything in the works even now?
I'm always inspired by current events, but sometimes you just gotta put a little tongue in your cheek.
TSWS: Before we go, what would you like to express to fans of the music?
Just how grateful they let us in their lives for a few minutes every now and again.
