A moving new single from The 456 delivers such a unique breed of honesty, packed with personality that you end up really getting attached to right from the start. As the song and story unfold, you really get a sense of that character more and more.
"Ground" is a beautiful song that boasts such lush and descriptive lyrics with a soundscape that feels slightly stripped down at first but then builds up into a more cinematic approach with string sections that are delicately and subtly approached but add more depth to the track. This is important because this is a very emotionally driven song and that aspect really shines through.
The levels of intensity seem to grow along with the song and that's part of the story as well. The more the song plays through, the more you get engulfed by not just the story but the entire aesthetic of that soundscape. In the end, you end up getting washed away with it all as well but I think that's part of the point.
The beauty of a song like this is that a lot of people can actually relate to it because it's about love in a way and that's something that's really important because it's taken from such a personal perspective that you can understand it. It's amazing because their ability to articulate that feeling and emotion, those inner thoughts, everything, is impressive.
I mainly feel this way because a lot of us have those kinds of inner thoughts, emotions, and feelings of course but a lot of us do not know how to weave that or articulate that into words let alone words and music, so when you listen to something like this, although it may be cathartic for the writers, it's relatable for the listener and that's what makes it so connective.
To be able to release a piece of music that has such a beautiful growth, has such smooth sounding textures and such a classic folk and singer-songwriter approach to it but also embodies all of that emotion and puts forth this super honest set of lyrics that you grab onto and hold is amazing.
You don't always get songs like this. This was cinematic and it had a vastness in its undertone in a way but it really also felt super one-on-one. It felt almost like you were sitting there watching this getting performed live right in your face and I feel like that is something that creates a sort of intensity.
Nothing about this track was really over the top. The vocals and the guitars, the added instrumentation, it all came together with a beautifully subtle approach as I mentioned earlier and this let the song grow into what it ends up being, but it never lets go of that character or that personality it starts off with and that may be the most important aspect of the entire thing.
We all need songs that make us feel and make us think and this is a perfect example of exactly that.
To me, this is true artistry. It's a song that was written to get something out. To let an emotion loose. To express something that you only know one way to express.
A lot of us don't have that sort of outlet but when we listen to songs like this and we hear how relatable they are we feel almost like they were written for us even though we know they weren't.
I love music like this. It is again completely connective and we need more music in the world that forms that kind of connection with us.
This was a beautifully woven single and I'm definitely going to be paying a lot more attention to The 456 from here on out.
