The Yum Yum Tree Drop A Heavy Handed Pop-Rock Track
The Yum Yum Tree just dropped a new single that thrashes out with a classic punk rock tonality, driving guitars, loads of animated approaches, and a robust energy that comes off completely fearless. Still, the entire track is riddled with pop Sensibility, including a heavy-hitting but super catchy chorus that you end up singing back by the second time around.
"My Corner" captures a very specific but very lively kind of energy that is super infectious and completely relentless.
The guitars are thick, juicy, and again, quite thrashing.
There's something about this that gives it this sort of classic punk aesthetic.
It could be the progression, the pop overtone, or the way they were able to capture a blend between a current indie rock feel and a classic punk sound.
I do think those guitar tones have a lot to do with it.
This track is absolutely blistering. They're hitting those guitars with such a heavy hand, the drums are absolutely smashing the entire time. I mean, there are parts where the song settles and breathes for a second, and they go into this 90s style bridge, but for the most part, the drums are destructive.
The snare is absolutely pounding, the crash cymbals are in full use, and the drummer really pushes that drive through the roof.
The bridge section of the song comes a bit later on, after the first few choruses. What they do with it is sort of let it extend out and start layering elements.
The song becomes a bit light, soft, and calm. The drums are doing a lot of work, and they're lighter in terms of their resonance and dynamic. The guitars lighten up, and the vocals soften.
That bridge starts opening up, and you start hearing the chorus vocal melody coming in. Suddenly, more layers of vocals are in play, the song has way more depth, and it starts building back into its verse approach.
The way they build that out is really genius.
There was definitely a lot of attention paid to the arrangement and how the song would unfold. It's such a brilliant move and songwriting to bring that part into the song and have it play out through the end.
So, this was a high-energy, massively driving, sonically thick, thrashing and smashing track, bursting with that pop and punk overtone, and this really interesting and brilliant approach to letting the song take on another life halfway through.
The soundscape to this was really in your face, and although it had a sort of simplified feel at the start, they branched out and really showcased their songwriting chops, which was amazing.
The song was already catchy right from the start. Once you hear that first chorus, again, you're just singing right along with it.
So, I definitely dig how they threw all this extra style and approach into the track because it does give depth. It does give it layers and more to chew on.
The whole thing was endlessly fun, and again, it was amazing how they channeled this sort of vintage punk rock undertone. It felt like a live performance because of the heft of the guitars and the energy of the band.
The vocalist is outstanding and really gave that balance of energy with the rest of the instrumentation, and brought on an unstoppable catchiness by capturing this hook that just works perfectly.
As far as we can tell, this is just a glimpse or a hint of an upcoming record from the band, of which this single will be a part.
I absolutely cannot wait for this full album to be released.
For now, I'll definitely be jumping around the living room to this track, and I think you will too if you crank it.
Give it a shot and see what happens.
This is a fun one that really doesn't encapsulate just vintage Punk, but pop rock as well.
